Top-Shelf Quality – Exactly What You Want in a Plug
I grabbed this plug (along with the heavy-duty cable). This one really stood out for the quality—top shelf all the way. Solid construction, easy to connect snug connections, and it just feels like it’s built for the long haul. When you’re wiring up something that’s going to carry real power, you don’t want cheap or flimsy parts. This plug doesn’t cut corners, and you can tell as soon as you’ve got it in your hands. Between this and the cable, I ended up with a rock-solid setup for my equipment. Absolutely worth it.

Good plugs
Well designed and ready to use. The terminals provide a very secure attachment. The integrated stress relief secures the cord really well. I also used a braided sleeve cover on my cords to add additional abrasion resistance. The cover was secured with a small section of heat shrink tubing, then I installed the plug over the sleeve and heat shrink. Definitely recommend.

High quality
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I should have bought and L5 instead of an L6 but I trimmed the one blade and it works like a champ. Industrial quality.

High quality, slick grip
A good, sturdy plug that I suspect will offer years of good service beyond the first piece of equipment that it is tied to. My only nit is that a soft rubber shell would be nice: this plug has a furled hard plastic barrel that is reminiscent of the old Nikkor lenses, though in plastic instead of metal, and on a shop plug instead of a lens. It's going to get coated in grease and oil in the shop, I'm afraid, and be difficult to grip well. But other than the material choice, the plug is well manufactured.

Durable and easy to install
Leviton locking plugs are fantastic! I cut the cord ends of all my 220VAC equipment and replaced them with these plugs (20amp plugs for the 20amp machines and 30amp plugs for the 30amp machines). The twist lock feature keeps the plugs from coming loose at inopportune times, and I can also use them for ceiling mounted receptacles to keep the dangling cords from unplugging. The twist lock feature also keeps the prongs from bending as easily like normal plugs do. It also ensures a secure plug-in contact with no chance of shocking yourself in case of accidentally touching a prong while plugging-in or unplugging it. It is easy to install the wires and has very durable parts. It comes with two different size grips to accomodate different size cords. In a few wiring situations, I was able to mix-match the cord grips to get the perfect fit. These will outlast any normal style plug.

Good quality plug
Also bought matching socket - for use with 5kw shop heater. Cheaper than local home centers, sometimes by a lot. Will use with 10-2 SOOW cord for quick disconnect to service heater. Same plug on my other shop heater, in service for 13 years without issue. Prefer to use name brands such as Leviton for the quality.

The Male Edition of the Twist-Lock
When choosing a system for deploying twist-lock connectors, the NEMA value is very critical. It just so happens that I run appliances both in my home and shop and in the field, connected to a genset. The new UL code says something about appliances using the two hot leads and the Neutral needing a four-prong plug and socket system, but in my case I use the third prong as the Grounded Conductor, or Neutral, and run an external frame ground with a secure, lugged and bolted cable to each appliance that cannot be unplugged, and that doesn't bond to the Neutral in the appliance. So when choosing the Twist-Lock setup of your choice, look at the NEMA code. The plug in this review is called an "L6-30P." This means the "L" refers to the system as Locking. The mating receptacle, whether it be in a wall or on a cord, will have a NEMA code starting with the letter "L" as well. The letter "P" at the end means it is a cordset PLUG. (The male contrivance) This is important because you never want to end up with a "P" end that can be energized while disconnected. The "30" number means it is rated for thirty amperes. This is critical, now because if you discount the "L" and "P," you can deduce the size and number of conductor pins. "6-30" means three metal contacts. Two are designated as live current carriers and the third is designated as a ground. In other words, a "6-30" anything will ONLY connect to another "6-30" something. As far as quality in this product, I happen to like the method of clamping the cordset on to the shell, and the method of capturing the bare conductors into the live body. The materials are strong and meant for industrial environments. This is not really a "convenience" cord connector, but it is recommended to you by someone who makes these cordsets up and uses them frequently.
