My parents loved these bags. Large enough to go on a 3-5 day trip. The detachable backpack is clutch! Excellent organization pockets and padded for laptops or tablets. Material is high quality to protect your belongings. Back straps are stored away in flap that come down over the wheels when carrying luggage on the shoulders. They loved the gray color.

I did really like this bag and would have liked to keep it, as this style (mix of rolling luggage/backpack) is really hard to find in a high-quality design. I only returned it because it was too large (slightly bigger than what is considered carry-on size). It's a high-quality bag with good zippers, sturdy wheels and solid, thick material. The colour was great and the bag looked fantastic. I really liked its different pockets/compartments and features, such as the little backpack that zips onto the front of the larger piece and especially the shoulder straps that conveniently zip into the back panel. It was almost the perfect bag, but it was slightly too large to be considered a carry-on according to some new airlines' size standards. It definately wouldn't have fit in a carry-on compartment with the new Canadian Airline regulations. But other than that, this is a very high-quality bag that I would have gladly kept. (I tend to travel only with carry-on luggage, so it's really not useful to me).

ALSO SEE ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW THIS UPDATE: After having used this bag for 2 weeks in Europe in planes, trains, subways, buses and a good deal of carting around on cobblestones, I can say that I’m pretty impressed by how well it’s held up. I ended up checking the bag in but decided to wrap it in an inexpensive nylon duffle bag first, because there are a lot of loose straps that could otherwise catch in the luggage carrousel. This also has the benefit of keeping the luggage clean. Upon retrieving my bag, I just removed the duffel and stuffed it in the front pocket for the next use. It also comes in handy if you suffered from “holiday shopping fever” and come back with more stuff than you had when you left. ABOUT THE HANDLE: As mentioned below, the handle doesn’t feel that sturdy when fully extended and if you want to make it last, don’t use it to lift your bag while it’s in the extended position. Drop it down first, then lift. Better yet, use the bag handle. ABOUT THE SIZE: If you intend on using the larger bag as a carry-on, you will need to check if it fits in the ‘’bag sizing’’ frame that is usually located around the check-in desk or self check-in machines. If it’s overstuffed, it will NOT fit (sigh…) hence the nylon duffle to quickly wrap it and send to the cargo hold instead. Also, be mindful that some airlines have a maximum weight limit for carry-ons and if using cubes to pack, the weight goes up really fast even if the size of the bag remains compact. ABOUT USING IT AS A BACKPACK: To my surprise, I ended up wheeling the bag more often than I expected because it was heavy (43 lbs) and quite difficult to put on by myself. However, the option to use it as a backpack was VERY appreciated when I got to long set of stairs which are pretty much the norm on the Amalfi Coast. IN CONCLUSION: I liked this arrangement of compression cubes and wheeled backpack so much, that I’ve switched to that way of packing on all my trips. I’ve done a few more since this update and I remain satisfied. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I needed something pretty compact that I could carry on my back if need be, so I ordered this kit despite some reviews saying it was “cheaply made”. I also wanted something that I could use on two week trips to avoid having to check any luggage in, only to find out it got lost in transit. I used many small packing cubes, but not the ones that came with the bag. I used the kind that has a secondary zipper to create even more compression and was able to fit an impressive amount of stuff in there. Unless there is an obvious stitching defect somewhere, I think most complaints about the zipper busting is most likely due to overstuffing the bag. This zipper is pretty much the same as on any of my other carry-ons, so I see no particular issue there. It is true that once the retractable handle is fully extended, it doesn’t feel that sturdy but to be honest, my other carry-ons have the exact same problem. As mentioned by many, when the small bag is zipped to the larger one, the whole thing topples forward. This is logical and to be expected because the center of gravity is moved forward. Since the smaller bag is designed to slip over the extended handle, this is my preferred way to carry it when I wheel it around, which solves the toppling issue. I hope this helps someone and Bon Voyage!

Great combo bag Good price, sturdy construction, packing cubes are really nice. Used as carryon and personal item for trip to Europe. Both pieces have good compartments for all travel items. Backpack became our daypack. Plus, water compartments on side of backpack.

Loved this product, great material and wheels, double pull handle nice and sturdy, however it noted being 22" high. I was willing to risk the .5" more than the allowable 21.5" size for Air Canada, but it is actually 23" high in total (so 1.5" over) and being a frequent traveler I didn't want to risk it being too large every time I travel. Really disappointed because it really was a nice set.
