Go the Distance

I think of bluesman and guitar wizard Walter Trout as a live act, and indeed his live albums are my enduring favorites, but on "Go The Distance" Trout nearly encapsulates the energy of one of his wild live shows in a great studio album. Here he has all his diverse capabilities on display from soulful slow blues originals like "Doin' Just Fine" to up-tempo almost pop rockers like "I Don't Want My MTV", which features some of Trout's most clever lyrics (I especially like the subtle reference to "Roll Over Beethoven"). I love the up-tempo "Message On the Doorway" (which has a particularly tasty organ solo) and the hard-driving "Outta Control" but perhaps Trout shines brightest in the soulful "Lookin' For the Promised Land" which seamlessly blends a poignant guitar line with pitch-perfect harmonies into an unusually beautiful package."Go The Distance" is a great studio album from Walter Trout. While I'll always come back to Trout's live work as his definitive recordings, this is a great album and I enthusiastically recommend it.

Walter is a very good guitar player, but, he keeps playing his 'finger exercises' over and over and over! If only he would cut down on his 2200 notes per minute habit. (I got this from an Alvin Lee review.) His singing is excellent, and his songs are outstanding. I like all the material. The sound is OUT OF THIS WORLD, and Jim Gaines is in top form as the producer. My best cuts are: GOTTA LEAVE THIS TOWN--a Jimi Hendricks feel, LOVE SO DEEP, LOOKING FOR THE PROMISED LAND, GO THE DISTANCE, I DON'T WANT MY MTV, and MESSAGE ON THE DOOR. Even his slower folk/ballads are top notch. I like the way he both sings and plays the very same notes on some selections. I dare you to find a better rock record! The more you listen, the more impressed you will be! This record will BLOW YOU AWAY!!

Nothing I've heard from Walter Trout is ever disappointing. I don't think you can ever go wrong with anything this man puts out. Just awsome. My brother has seen him several times in Europe and has the same respect for him as I do. I just wish he'd play more here in the states so I could see him too. Until then, I'll just enjoy listening to his recordings.

"go the distance" ist schlicht und einfach ein meisterwerk!Ich will die CD und die einzelnen songs gar nicht erst zerpflücken. Bei dieser hervorragenden Bluesmusik ist das auch überhaupt nicht notwendig! Trout spielt in Höchstform, nicht minder inspiriert agiert auch der rest der band.Eine richtig gute scheibe die in jede gute Bluessammlung gehört!Fazit: Kaufen!
