NuTone 5901A000 Fan Blower Wheel Assembly

Last week, I purchased this NuTone 5901A000 Fan Blower Wheel Assembly, in conjunction with the NuTone 23405ser Ventilation Fan Motor purchased from another Amazon vendor. Both replacement components fit and work perfectly in my parent’s 42-year-old NuTone Vent-A-Lite Bathroom Fan Model 8672N that was installed in 1974. The original fan motor for that unit was no longer powerful enough to sufficiently vent steam from the bathroom. Other Amazon reviewers strongly recommended purchasing this new fan at the same time when purchasing a new fan motor so that the new fan could be attached more securely than trying to use the old fan.My fan was ordered from Amazon Marketplace vendor, InnovativeSupply. Individual product packaging consisted simply of the white, plastic fan assembly and single pieces of cardboard used to protect its top and bottom, all of which were sealed within a clear, thick plastic bag (see attached photo). A side-by-side comparison of my original fan to this replacement reveals that both have completely identical dimensions, including a 1/4-inch diameter for the hole through which the fan motor’s shaft is inserted. Attached to the top of the fan is a metal compression clamp (see attached photo) which is used to mount the fan securely to the fan motor’s shaft. Imprinted in the white plastic along replacement fan's outside top perimeter are the words “Thorgren Valparaiso Indiana” and number ”2.” The only discernible difference between my original fan and this replacement is the way in which the plastic has been molded (presumably to provide strength) on the new fan in the area proximal to the hole through which the fan motor’s shaft is inserted (see attached photo).Mounting this fan was extremely easy. One simply aligns the flat spot on the fan's 1/4-inch hole to the flat part of the fan motor’s shaft and then pushes it onto the shaft which requires only a small amount of pressure to do so. It is extremely important that this alignment be performed when mounting the fan or else there is the risk having a fan that is not held as securely to the motor's shaft as it should be thereby resulting in a noisy fan either immediately or sometime within the near future. That actually happened to me, after installing my new fan to the motor shaft without aligning the two correctly. To remedy this, I ended up having to remove and replace the brand new plastic fan I had failed to install correctly and then purchase another one (again from Amazon) to replace it. So heed this warning and please don't make the same dumb mistake I did.I'd also like to suggest that you do the following, just as I do. Periodically (say anuually or so) remove the fan's motor so that you can clean any dust that might have managed to accumulate on this plastic blower housing. This task is really not that difficult or time-consuming at all, but it's surprising how much dust so often seems to collect on this blower. Not only will this improve the fan's overall efficiency, it should also improve the overall performance and lifespan of the fan's pricier motor portion since it will not otherwise have to work quite as hard.Due to the fact that this product is identical to the 42-year-old original in almost all ways and is affordably-priced, I must say that I am very pleased. Hence, my 5-star rating.

Works great, and installation was super easy. The fit was nice and snug on the motor shaft, but I only had to push it on tight with my hands/fingertips (no hammering required as other reviewers mentioned). It was delivered very fast: Standard 2 day turn-around time on Amazon Prime. I have a NuTone QT110N-B bathroom exhaust fan that had become very noisy. Sure enough, the center of the original plastic wheel had been stripped and was slipping where it attached to the shaft of the motor.I was hesitant to buy this because I was unsure if this would work for my model. Also, some reviewers had given bad reviews (too tight of a fit, had to hammer it on, only worked a few months), but I don't think they knew exactly what they were doing to install this wheel. See below....One reviewer said this came with a completely round hole, when the motor shaft is a "D" shape -- one edge of the round motor shaft is flattened. When I first got the wheel, I thought this was the same case for me. *However*, if you look carefully, one part of the "round" hole on the wheel is flat. It's subtle, and you have to look -- it's easier to see this flattened area from the inside "bowl" of the wheel. So, when you are installing the new wheel onto the motor shaft, you need to match this flat edge of the hole with the flat edge of the motor shaft. Again, it's subtle, but it's there. If this is matched up, you should have no problems.Other reviewers said they had to hammer it on the shaft or that the wheel only worked for a few months. I wonder if these reviewers noticed this slightly flat "D" shape of the blower wheel and matched it up to the shaft correctly?It would have been better if some instructions came with the wheel indicating you need to align the 2 flat surfaces. Maybe they are giving us home-repair-do-it-yourselfers too much credit--by assuming we know more than what we do.I hope this review helps.

Save money and use this as your fix for noisy NuTone fans. If motor is running well and electrical systems seem to be otherwise okay, the cause of noisy fans is the connection of the metal axle of the motor to the small hole for the plastic fan blower wheel. Over years the D shaped plastic hole strips and the fan blower wheel does not stay tightly affixed to the metal motor axle as it should. Then when the exhaust fan is turned on, the motor runs fine, but the plastic fan blower wheel slips, vibrates, makes noises and works inefficiently. This new plastic fan blower wheel makes a very tight attachment to the the axle which not only eliminates vibration/noise but makes the fan work much better....like new. Also, don't get confused with the crazy old numbering systems that NuTone had for its exhaust fans, motors, and fan blowers. Just measure your old plastic fan blower. If it is 6 inch by 2 inch and looks like this, then buy it. Folks who replace the motor with the fan blower wheel pay for a new motor when they do not need it!!

Fan wheel arrived very quickly (ordered on a Saturday/ arrived on Monday). The Wheel was the exact same product as the OEM wheel assembly of our fan. The reason I needed a new one is that the middle hole of the wheel was worn and slid down the fan motor shaft. The hole on the new one was nice and snug, and stayed in place. Original fan runs smoothly and quietly. Best and most inexpensive fix!!
