Audio Production and Critical Listening: Technical Ear Training (Audio Engineering Society Presents)

The textual content of this book was up to par with my expectations (which were high). The problem is that the critical listening part of this book is spoiled by buggy software.Mac version of the ear training software won't launch (a known issue, trying to get a new version from the manufacturer).Windows version has trouble with basic laptop soundcards which produce clicks and pops. ASIO soundcards seem to work as expected. You need greater than 800 x 600 resolution to run the ear training software. Otherwise part of the software won't fit your screens height.Considering the price, I'm currently not very happy with this purchase. I would suggest waiting for a new version of the training software to get most out of this book.

The book is ideal for persons interested in trying to understand aural perception in audio and psycho-acoustics. Although the book is slightly too fundamental for me but it does cover quite in detail on basics in audio critical listening and music reproduction.The technical details and graphical diagrams are easy to understand by non-technical person. It is a good book for a person trying to understand the critical aspects of basic acoustics and audio engineering.

The audio concepts explained in this book are pretty solid. However they can be found on many other books. What I found fantastic about this product are the software modules it comes with so you can train your ears. I've seen nothing like that in the market so the software alone to me is worth the price of the book

Corey has a great idea here. If you're new to audio this will teach load of specific skills related to listening and mixing. Even if you've been recording a long time this software can help fill in some holes in your audio ability, refresh or tweak what you have already learned....very cool....

It has great information but not written in lay man's terms at all. Very technical and hard to understand The cd is great. It puts real world sounds and examples to the gibberish in the book.

This book and the related exercises are very well done. The layout and basic explanations are very well conceived. I particularly like the Max based exercises that are used throughout the book.

Great book! The software that comes with it is very useful, and can provide very basic to very difficult training. Overall, this book will certainly increase your listening skills
