Can you use the brushes with acrylic paint?

These are really soft bristles meant for watercolor. I would not recommend using them for acrylic at all unless you like painting with a mop? 😊

I just got these brushes and they’re incredibly stiff. no bend in them at all. is that normal? should i soak them in water to loosen them up?

That's a glue that helps keep the shape of your brushes. Run them under warm water and gently massage all the glue off. Never soak a brush. The Ferrell will loosen up and the hairs will start falling out...also, when drying them, hang them with bristles facing down and not up. Or lay them flat to dry.

How well do these perform compared to higher priced synthetic Kolinsky alternatives?

I haven’t purchased any Kolinsky brushes, so I can’t compare—however, these are my favorite watercolor brushes at the moment. Excellent control and water absorption. Great movement. I treat them like babies (lol). I daresay you should buy at least one to try.
