Sorayama: XL - Masterworks Edition

This is quite an incredible book and collection of artworks from Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. Publisher Edition Skylight had actually published the first edition of the book in 2010 as a 448-page hardcover. With this new edition, a couple more pages of artworks were added. It's one heck of a tome. Huge, about 9 by 12 inches, hardcover, 464 pages thick. The paper quality and binding are great. The book's quite heavy so there might be additional weight surcharge depending on your shipping method and where you ship to. There's not much text so it's basically art throughout. The pages are packed with huge reproductions of Sorayama's beautiful erotic art plus the shiny chrome robots. It's just so awe-inspiring to look at so much high quality art. Sorayama has a masterly ability to draw beautiful women. Needless to say, many of the images are explicit. There are ladies in their evocative poses as well as scenes of bondage. The technical prowess as an artist is at full display page after page. The details are amazing such as the way he draws the textures of the skin, clothing, or design of the bondage equipment, how he handles metallic chrome texture, lighting and colouring. The realism is fantastic. Unfortunately, the artworks are not captioned so there's no way to know when they were created. It will be quite unbelievable to know that he's this good even at the start of his career. Overall, it's a stunning collection of work from Sorayama. Far and away the best art book for grownups I have ever seen. Sorayama is a true genius. Wished all the pieces were full page, but with so many incredible pictures hard to pick a favorite. Probably page 146. Amazing! Must have for any Erotic or Taboo Art lover

If you're a Sorayama fan this is the book for you. It's big, lush and beautiful. I also own the paperback version of "Sorayama Complete Works" but I was somewhat disappointed in its 6 X 8 3/4 inch size. XL, on the other hand, measures 9 1/2 X 12 inches and is a hefty hardback so you can view the gorgeous paintings in all their glory. Well worth the price.

Also a must for every voyeur's collection. Just so sexy and imaginative. A wonderful work which I will treasure for the rest of my life.

maybe i should have read more about hajime. i have not collected any of his pieces or know about his art. maybe that's my fault. i was buying this to for what i thought was futuristic artwork. i didn't know it was going to be a "soft porn" collection. do not keep this where kids can see. sorry hajime fans.

The best and most comprehensive collection of Soroyama's work I have ever seen! Great quality images and binding - It takes more than one sitting to properly look through it. This is by far my favorite book in my collection.

la sur-couverture était tout bonnement coupée en deux sur toute la longueur, pour un objet de collection c'est révoltant. l'ouvrage reste une très belle référence du maître japonais.

Il tomo presenta varie sezioni, rappresentative dei temi cari al grande illustratore che, sfidando la tecnologia che impazza , continua ad affascinare il suo modo di usare il colore e la sua tecnica pittorica portata ad un livello estremo , come testimonianza di genio , e di un'antica scuola e mestiere .

Venho acompanhando o trabalho de Hajime Sorayama a bastante tempo e posso dizer com certeza: Este livro é o catálogo definitivo de sua carreira, já possuía o Masterworks lançado em 2010, mas ele era menor e em capa mole, já nesta versão expandida, além de ser maior, possui páginas extras e é em capa dura, para quem já é familiarizado com o trabalho dele é obrigatório e para quem não conhece é uma ótima oportunidade! Recomendo a todos!

Four hundred eighty pages of a large and heavy book. Scintillating, mesmerising and awesome. The best of all the art books I have. I have Robert McGinnis, Gennadiy Koufay, Barbara Jensen, Boris Vallejo, Lucie Bell, Jose Cano, Nik Guerra, Bruce Colero, Jose Nido, Peter Driben, Elvgren and Varga. Maybe 15 odd pages of text - rest beautifully crafted art. Superb composition, poses, props and fantasy. It took nearly four hours to go through the book. Caveat: It is a book for mature readers(?). About 90% are of females of which 90% are nudes - top or bottom or both exposed. Some explicit pics. The book may be categorised as a softcore pornographic illustrations masterpiece. Not a coffee table book. Value for money for such a production.
