I had a short term need to know that my mother could communicate with my sister in a different room. Before I got in town to set it up, my mother was better. From what I checked out, it works well. It was too late to return, and I decided that I was good to have on hand. My mother has continued with health issues, and may need this again, long - or short term. And if she goes back to a 2 story home, I liked the idea that she could have a button to press for help on a base, and the walkie talkies work with it for us to respond, portably room by room. It would/will be one less thing to find, when we need it. This combo was not available, other than online. So I'm glad I bought, even though haven't used it. I suspect we will and would be great with an infant or anyone disabled short-term or long-term.

An honest review. The range is about 150 feet. I live out in the country, miles away from anybody, my shop is 100 feet from my house. I have a surveyor's tape-measure that goes to 100 feet, and I tested this. I bought 5 units without existing knowledge, 3 in the house, 2 in the shop. The house and shop can't communicate, but the units that are together work fine. No concrete, no lead, and certainly not a half mile, like advertised. Maybe if they are outside with nothing between them you might get that range. For the units that worked together, all features worked excellent. If you aren't expecting the range advertised, this is the product for you. They are well made and well packaged. They just don't have the range advertised, which probably works for most people. I gave it a low star for false advertising and nothing else. I think for the average user, they would be great, but not if you live in a big house or are trying to communicate with an out-building.

Can't turn the Call volume down. When I push the Call button it's loud as hell on the unit I'm using, I'd rather it just ring the other unit. No way to mute that. The signal is faint. You have to turn the volume up to full to hear who you're calling, or basically be right on top of this thing which you can't be because the Call/Ring noise is so damn loud...

I bought these for my parents that have a barn so they can talk while my mom is in the house and dad is in the barn and garden and they love all of it

We wanted an inexpensive system so we wouldn't have to shout upstairs. It's a good system. The only thing I don't like about it is that it sometimes catches frequencies from elsewhere and scares the dickens out of me. It's happened several times and it must be someone on the same frequency in our neighborhood. They are pretty good for the price and they do what we needed them to do.
