The Very Best Of Daryl Hall & John Oates (K2HD Master) I ...
The Very Best Of Daryl Hall & John Oates (K2HD Master)I know, this is not a SACD but, the sound of this CD is amazing. A nice 3d sensation.I listened with my iDSD Nano DAC and a Shure professional headphones. The negative issue is that seller send me a second edition, that’s mean that my CD is NOT a numbered edition (1,000 copies). A big problem if you are a collector. The positive issue is the nice cd packaging, i mean the hardcover and the CD manufactured in Japan.

Great package of some of the best pop/soul music in rock history
I noticed one reviewer was disappointed with the sound of this CD, but to me it sounded pretty much like other music from the eighties. Studio technology has vastly improved, to the point we can have home studios via computer programs and make music that sounds better than lots of classic albums, or at least the ones that haven't been remixed and/or remastered.Look at my review history lately and you'll see a lot of guitar oriented jazz and metal, which many would consider odd bedfellows, but the common thread to me is musicianship, and even the biggest detractors to metal will, if pressed, admit that with thrash, traditional (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden) and death there lies within technical brilliance amidst the bombast that can't be doubted. Plus, I've loved heavy music since a teenager in the late 1970's, and as I get older, I find great music in many places I had overlooked, and developed a love for jazz guitar, Charlie Christian, the bebop and hard bop eras and several current maestros. Plus, I like Duke Ellington and lots of blues, too. It can be said that some of this music takes time to appreciate and understand if you weren't raised with it.But I have plenty of classic rock too, and my brother and I were discussing the sorry state of pop music, and how the likes of ELO, The Beatles, or The Cars haven't been replicated with any success. Ditto Darryl Hall and John Oates. Just looking at the playlist on this compilation reminds us just how many songs they wrote that were big hits, and still sound damn good today. The Philadelphia duo were passionate about their Philly soul roots, and used that style very effectively, and adding some of the best hooks and melodies FM radio ever chomped on. Lest anybody consider John Oates a persona non grata and give Darryl Hall more credit, Oates too cowrote many of their best hits and played guitar, too. But not to detract from Darryl Hall. His voice is instantly recognizable, and the music has just the right amount of Philly soul and pop elements to do both styles a great service. "Sara Smile", their first hit was a smoky ballad worthy of the Stax Records heyday in the late 1960's. Then we get other great tunes - "Rich Girl", "Kiss Is On My List", "Private Eyes" and so many others I had forgotten just how prolific they were.In rock today, we get hip hop, rap, phony R & B (maybe Bruno Mars being an exception), heartless and soulless alternative weenie rock, and little else. While it irks me so many people will not listen to anything past Guns 'N Roses, no matter how good some of the music is, it is understandable how the incredible mediocrity of Top 40 and pop is worthless in their estimation. Labels have always been quick to sell out, lower standards and create false "musicians" or "boy and girl" bands for teen consumption. It is still that age group that buys the most music.Hall and Oates were, like ELO in their '70's heyday, always a welcome breath of fresh air. The songs are plenty catchy - it's pop music like it was supposed to be, but with the musicianship and soul underpinnings what could be just another bland tune became timeless hits in their hands. I'm glad they were successful, and it's worth revisiting some of the best pop music of the 1980's.
