Expand the number of plug-ins, including those big cube plugs!
I had an outlet that needed to accommodate 6 plugs. Of course they wouldn't be used all at the same time but I didn't want to plug in and unplug constantly as needed. I was going to use a 3 plug extension for each of the two plugs to give me the 6 that I needed, except these days many plugs are big cubes that take up so much room you can't use all the plug-ins. I tried a Frankenstein assembly of extensions upon extensions, seemed dangerous and unsightly. This product solves my problem neatly and elegantly. Since each plug can swivel to be front or side facing you can plug in a "cube" without it overlapping onto the plug beside it. I got all 6 plugs accommodated plus I have the upper outlet still available for another appliance. Works great and problem solved!

How much surge protection do you really need?
2024-01-09. Surge protector wall tap by ECHOGEAR. 6-outlet. 2-USB. 90° swivel. 1080 joules. White. When writing this review, I was asked to rate the following:For travelling: 1 star (can't give 0 stars)WiFi signal: 1 star (can't give 0 stars)Versatility: 4 starsI thought this was very odd as the questions don't really pertain to this particular wall tap.The wall tap is designed to be semi-permanently attached to your wall receptacle (there is a screw that holds the wall tap in place), so it's really not designed for travelling. I guess you can bring it along, but with 6 sockets, this wall tap is quite bulky, so for me, that's a no for travelling. There are simply way better options out there. As far as WiFi signal is concerned, this wall tap can't connect to WiFi, so the rating is irrelevant.Versatility is probably the only sub-rating that is relevant to this wall tap, and I'll give you my comments on this at the end of the review in my summary. But before I get to that, let's talk about surge protection. So what is a Joule and how many do you need?A joule rating indicates how much energy the surge protector can absorb before it fails. The higher the number, the greater the protection provided. Keys to determining the amount of protection needed include the type and value of the equipment to be protected. Obviously the more expensive the equipment, the more protection you should get. Inexpensive components like lamps and alarm clocks don't really need protection, but things like TV's, audio/video and home theater components do. If you do think you need protection, I'd start a minimum of 600 joules. If you're using it for sensitive electronics, I'd double that to 1200 joules. When you move up to bigger things like power tools, computers, copiers, printers, etc. you'll want to go up to 1800 joules. And for that home theater or entertainment system, you should ensure they're safe with at least 2000+ joules of protection. The area where you live is also a factor. If you live in an area that is prone to surges and spikes, go for higher joule rated surge protection. This 6 outlet wall tap was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something that had rotating outlets so that I can plug bulky adapters without them getting in each others way. I wanted a light indicator when power was on, and most importantly, a light indicating that surge protection is on. The reason for this is simple. Items like this are designed for electrical outages. When power is restored, there may be surges, power feeds larger than the 110V-120V, and these surge protectors help protect and regulate power transmittal so that it will not blow what is connected. The notable is that surge protectors are designed to protect from on ONE large power surge. This unit is rated at 1080 joules, so a surge larger than that will result in the sensor tripping and cutting off power completely. This "suicide" by the surge protector is what it's designed to do. It sacrifices itself to save what is connected to it. But once the sacrifice has been made, it will need to be replaced. The problem is, you never know when the unit had made the sacrifice. If could be overnight when you're asleep, or during the day when you're away. The point is, without an indicator noting that surge protection is still functioning, you never know. And then, then next time you get that large surge, your precious equipment may be ruined.Having said all that, this surge protector wall tap by ECHOGEAR is rated at 1080 joules, which is pretty much exactly how much I need as the main things being plugged into these outlets are electronics (laptop computers, tablets, and the like). Is more protection better? Of course, just keep in mind that the more protection you get, the more it will cost. It the end, it's most cost effective to get only what you need. One downside to this wall tap is that the sockets can't be used while spun partially. It's only a 90° rotations. This surge protected wall tap also comes with 2 USB ports. A USB-A and a USB-C. This is just the model, and there is a version that doesn't have the USB-ports if you have no use for them and don't want to pay the higher price tag. Worthy to note is that these USB ports output a max of 3.4 amps COMBINED. This means that if both ports are used simultaneously, both charging speeds will be throttled (i.e. they would share the maximum 3.4A). When only the USB-C is used, the maximum output is 15W (5V @ 3A). I would assume that the max output of the USB-A is 12W (5V @ 2.4A) when only the USB-A is used. When both are used, the split will most likely be 12W (5V @ 2.4A) for the USB-C and 5W (5V @ 1A) for the USB-A, providing a max output of 17W. Neither QC or PD are supported with any of these ports.Overall, this surge protector wall tap by ECHOGEAR checked off all my boxes. I plan on using it to plug in my laptop and a multi USB block so that I can charge 5V-20V items (phones, tablets, and the like) if I need them fast charged. If I don't need them fast charged, I'll most likely use the built in USB ports. The only other notable is that the outlets don't have sliding covers. Another non-essential, but nice to have. Sliding covers would help keep dust and moisture out.

Convenient Design
These are a must buy. The convenience of the rotating plugs that allow for different size cords without having to figure out how to make space on a conventional outlet. Very well designed. Especially for the TV area connects all components with ease.
