The sand granule size might be too large for your hourglass votive like it was mine. We're ok that it's "frozen in time" but something to consider when choosing a votive &/or choosing sand!

My first bag was ripped open. Sand everywhere in the box. Shipping fault I assume - was pachaged alonside another item which may have caused the damage. Amazon quickly sent a replacement. Product quality is higher end and you'll pay for that, but I'm not disappointed with my purchase.

For starters, this is a tiny amount of sand for the price. I thought I was buying from a brand I purchased from before for about the same cost, but this sand is only 1/5th the quantity for the same price. That's on me, though. The bigger disappointment is that this black sand has colored glitter in it. I thought that there would be some reflective pieces in it which would account for some specular highlights, but this is actual colored glitter, not reflective black pieces. The pictures shown must have been intentionally desaturated because they show no hint of color. As a photographer, I bought this product for a shoot. Because of this, I will either have to return this and buy another brand of black sand elsewhere (throwing off my shooting schedule), or edit out the colored glitter in post (adding to my workload and costing me money). If you don't mind the colored glitter, go for it, it might work for your purposes. Just order with a better understanding of the product because this post is very misleading.

It went really well with our unity ceremony! The color was a nice deep black and wasn't overpowering when mixed with the blue sand.
