Easy replacement for my carvin pool pump

This capacitor is an exact replacement for a Pentair EC-LA01N Booster pump capacitor that runs the pool cleaner. Easy to replace took 5 mins. Search youtube on how to replace it and make sure to discharge the capacitor before removing the old one.

I was blown away when the replacement start capacitor arrived and it was an exact match with the defective part. It literally took less than 10 minutes to swap out the caps and the pool pump was up and running! Some caveats. This capacitor sits on top of the motor under a cover held on by two hex screws. The literature refers to this capacitor as the, “run capacitor.” Don’t be fooled. This is the capacitor you want to change when the pool motor will not start (just a loud buzz). The original capacitor is 25 µf as is the replacement. The run capacitor is buried deep in the motor housing and would be very difficult to replace so this is great news. I have included some very basic photos showing the typical Pentair motor configuration. I’m sure there are others out there but this unit is apparently the most common. Please make absolutely sure that you’ve disabled power to the pump prior to starting your project. 240 vac should not be taken lightly. Good luck and good swimming.

The only reference I could find online for my pool's booster pump, a Pentair LA01N, referred to the motor using a 50mF capacitor, but, after opening the cover on the top of the motor, I found it takes a 25mF capacitor. Once this new one arrived, I had it swapped in & the pump was able to start & run just fine after turning the breaker back on. As far as lifespan for the original capacitor, I installed the pump shortly after ordering it in March, 2013, so the capacitor lasted about 5 years. I anticipate the new one lasting about as long, but it's good to know they're readily available & inexpensive compared to the $250 cost of the pump. I've included a couple pics of the original capacitor, which expanded and burst at the top, compared to the new unit.

Works perfectly for a Hayward Super II, 1.5hp dual speed pool pump. I had an issue where the pump would only turn on when in low speed mode. On high speed, it would hum but not turn on, then trip the breaker. I read replacing the capacitor could resolve the issue and the replacement part at most “discount” online pool stores was $33. Found this model on Amazon when searching the same specs (25 MFD, 370 Vac) for less than $12. When I opened the pump, lo and behold, the exact same Genteq capactor came with the unit. It took 5 minutes to replace it and it fixed the issue. Pool pump is working perfectly now. A pool repair service charges between $89 and $129 just to come out and investigate the problem and many will just replace the entire motor for $350. With little electrical knowledge, I was able to resolve the issue for <$12!!!!
