Honestly, no. You should check out Alan Ross reviews on YouTube- he does the exact comparison of what you're asking. 2x booms beat out the boom plus in soundstage and overall sound frequency quality (it's quite close though). Hard to beat the soundstage of two separate speakers. From my personal experience, I'm still so happy with the boom plus in terms of portability and sound (in custom eq mode, I don't really like the soundcore tuning). This speaker is only about 1.5x the size and weight of the motion boom (surprisingly light when you pick it up) and it goes twice as loud. Easier than lugging around two speakers if you go on holiday or to a park or beach or something. But yeah, if you're looking to set up a sound system in the house and not move them about to often then it might be better for you to get two motion booms. (I have one boom and now a boom plus fwiw). will this work when plugged into mains power via the usb?

Yes most definitely although I cant imagine the charge wattage will cope with the output power if High volume so you'd be in deficit mode. It does flash the charge power light and then limit volume so it may know how to balance charge wattage versus power output requirements - hope this helps...
