Why is Calcium in this? I’ve always been told to avoid calcium and iron together.

Vitamin C helps the absorption of iron, however ascorbic acid is not stable with the Optiferin form so Pure Encapsulations uses calcium ascorbate. The amount of calcium is not enough to interfere with absorption.

Is this product food based?

Pure Encapsulations Optiferin-C contains mineral iron from iron ore bound to synthetic glycine. The calcium ascorbate is derived from calcium from mineral ore and ascorbic acid from corn dextrose fermentation.

Is this iron chelated?

Says, "Iron (as iron bis-glycinate) 28mg. 156% daily per 1 capsule.

What is in the calcium ascorbate blend? I read in a different question that the amount of calcium is so small it wont interfere with the iron.
