NO, it does not hold tooth paste. They are 4 round holes on the top for tooth brushes only.

Yes, the holes are large so that the newest shaped toothbrush handles fit well and are easily inserted and removed. The depth of each slot is perfect for keeping toothbrushes stable for storage. Ours keeps adult and small child toothbrushes neat.
