That gave Bud a huge dose of "Hope" not available to so many of today's children who find themselves in a system that can't or doesn't protect them. I wept, laughed, and cheered for Bud as he exhibited so many of the same qualities as our newest family member. If you ever wondered what it's like to be a kid who simply wants to be loved and cared for, this book is a "must-read." Author Christopher Paul Curtis captures the heart and mind of a ten-year-old boy with courage and compassion. I did listen to my grandmother, and his research about the feelings of the day in the upper Midwest are 'spot-on' to the point you believe you are on the road with Bud. I urge parents everywhere to consider this book for their 8-12 year-olds. As I parent, I have only one word of caution. This book makes running away into a huge adventure. I would love to share this inspiration with my grandson, but it's far too early. His pain is still too raw from the neglect and abuse, and I would fear he would conjure up visions of a wonderful man waiting to take him in and love him.

Absolutely beautiful story
I can’t remember the last time a book made me cry. This beautifully written book made me feel like I was there with characters experiencing the moment. I was surprised that a children’s book would evoke such emotions. My son was assigned this book for school and I decided to pre-read it to discuss any potential difficult subjects involving racism. I was happy to see that it was age appropriate and the words were handled with care.

It is a great book for young people.Although the story does not pick up fast enough.
I thought bud not buddy was a great book.It is heartwarming and nice.It is about a young boy on a quest.He lost his mother and tries to find his father.He meets many new friends along the way but also meets some obstacles.He goes through,rain or shine.He is a brave young boy in a big world. The book shows life in the 1930’s through the eyes of a young boy.It shows the tragedy and the joyfulness of this era.He goes about the world of the crazy 1930’s.He is going to rapid falls with a mindset to find his father.The story is history lesson with you not even knowing it!It is a wonderful book for kids. Why bud not buddy is great for kids.It is great for kids because they learn valuable lessons.It teaches them about losing someone.It also teaches them about not to run away.It teaches them the life of the people who came before us.That is why it is a great book for kids.

Captivating Story On Our Need to Be Loved
Every chapter better than the one before culminating in an emotional and satisfying ending. A great read filled with great characters. A wonderful story showing how we all long to belong!

世界恐慌の時代のアメリカ。 母親を亡くして孤児院にいたBudは、10歳の時に裕福な里親に引き取られるが、 初日に酷い目に合わされ、その家を飛び出す。 多すぎる孤児の数にパンク状態の孤児院には帰りたくないBudは、 母親が大切にしていたバンドのチラシに載っている、父親と思われる人を探すことを決心し、 母親の思い出の詰まった古いスーツケースを片手に、ひとり歩き出す。 恐慌と人種差別の中で生きる厳しいはずの状況にもかかわらず、 Budも、Budが出会う人たちも、全然悲壮感はなくて、タフで、希望があって、読んでてすごく楽しいです。

Heartwarming middle grade book
'Bud, Not Buddy' is a precious book, bursting with the kind of innocence that makes my heart ache, much like 'The Mighty Miss Malone', which I read and loved several years ago. Armed with a set of rules to have a funner life and be a better liar, Bud sets out to look for his father. All he has to help him is a suitcase full of his treasures. Some of his treasures are rocks with places and dates on them. Others are flyers advertising Herman E. Calloway and his famous band. Why would his mother have kept these flyers if Herman E. Calloway wasn’t his father? Conviction, optimism, street smartness, and a little bit of luck come together as Bud travels from Flint where he lived in a Home, to the Great Rapids, where he is sure he will find his father. With Bud, we experience fear and anticipation, love and heartbreak, laughter and tears. Humour drives the story just as much as emotion does, making 'Bud, Not Buddy' a heartwarming read that we tear through and finish with a smile. I’m not surprised that this charming story has sold over four million copies and won the Newbery!
