UTK Far Infrared Heating Pad for Back, Natural Jade & Tourmaline, 23.5x16"

UPDATE: After contacting the company, they sent me a new pad and controller, free of charge, and let me know that the heating pad has a 3 year replacement warranty. As a result, I updated my review to 5 stars. Let's hope this one lasts a good, long time of good use. ------------------------------- This heating pad worked extremely well, providing very good, deep heat that was excellent for relieving the pain and stiffness from my various physical problems (I am a disabled combat veteran who has suffered a number of injuries from my combat and military service). When I bought this heating pad, I was extremely happy at how effective the far-infrared heat worked—it was much better than any other heating pad I have owned. So, despite the cost (I paid $125.01, which is the most I have spent for an electric heating pad by far), this seemed like a very well-worthwhile personal health expenditure. However, ordinary, much less expensive heating pads I have had last for at least 3 to 5 years before they stopped working regularly, and usually at least a year or so after that before failing completely. That's expected, given how electronic heating pads function with electrical resistance creating heat. But we received this and started using it at the very beginning of September 2021, and it failed on January 13, 2023—not even 16.5 months of usage. We use this 4–5 times per week on average, for sessions of about 30–45 minutes at a time. We treat it very carefully, don't lay weight on it, and it is outwardly in the same condition that it was when we received it. However, now, for no reason whatsoever that can be fathomed, yesterday it began losing temperature and would not get above 100 degrees F. Today, it got to the 130 degree range for about 3 minutes and then the temperature dropped to the low 100s again and stayed there. I tested the cord with a multimeter and it is getting full current through it, over 120 volts easily. Everything there checks out. So, apparently, the heating wires inside have failed, after only around 16.5 months of easy, careful use of the pad. Unfortunately, since the pad is sewn closed, it isn't feasible to try open it up and fix it. Electronic heating pads are not supposed to be "repaired" anyway, given the potential hazards for fire and such when you go into it and start fiddling with burned out or broken wires. This is very unfortunate that this really great heating pad has failed so quickly, given that it is about twice as expensive as other heating pads that last more than 2 to 3 or even 4 times as long. And the warranty on the pack is only 1 year, so it's just outside of the repair or replace window that the company has set for this device. Maybe the company will read this review and do something about that.

This is my second UTK heating pad. I bought the neck one first. Helped rid me of my neck pain. Decided I needed a larger one for larger body parts. It came in a very nice box and with a storage case. Cord was plenty long enough to plug in and the booklet suggests a surge protector so you get even a longer distance that way. Warms up fairly quickly. Most heating pads nowadays don’t get this warm. I like that it is fully adjustable by using the digital controller. I highly recommend for helping with deeper aches and pains.

I bought this for my brother who has multiple health issues the most debilitating right now being his almost nonfunctional hip that is bone on bone. He can barely walk and is doing less and less. As a result he is filled with self-loathing and despair, angry at himself and the world. I thought the far infrared therapy would hopefully ease his pain and help his mobility and I was right. within a day he was moving better, able to take bigger steps, but the incredible part is the change in his demeanor. Supposedly the tourmaline stones emit negative ions that help with mood, in the same way being at the beach or near a waterfall will elevate the mood. Well, for the first time in seems like forever he is smiling and pleasant and his emotional energy is elevated and improved significantly. This heating pad is a game changer and I cannot recommend it enough. I've been telling everyone I know. It is heavy and a bit hard to plug together but once done it works fabulously. Highly recommend!

I love this heating pad! I used it almost everyday for just over a year when it stopped heating up. I was so disappointed but reached out to UTK about the issue. They were very prompt with response back and send me a new pad the next week! I really appreciate them standing behind their product because it is great!

I’ve been using a different version of this small UTK pad, that had all jade stones for a few months now, and when they came out with this one that had tourmaline, I was curious how the different stones would affect the heating process. I currently own 3 UTK heating pads and I can honestly say that I love them all! This small one I use predominantly for my stomach as I suffer from a range of chronic gastrointestinal problems and something called Gastroparesis, which can cause my stomach and abdominal muscles to spasm painfully, especially at night. Before buying the smaller UTK heating pad, I was unable to sleep at night without waking up several times from abdominal pain, or from the burns caused by traditional coil heating pads. While the traditional pads, got hot enough to leave permanent burn scars on my skin, they never seemed to reach the source of my pain or relieve my symptoms. The heat was just a mild nerve distractions. With the UTK heating pads, I definitely feel that the heat travels deeper. It helps my stomach to move normally, and can ease my spasms significantly. I can’t fall asleep without my heating pad resting on my stomach, and I’m so surprised to find that I don’t keep it anywhere near the hottest setting, as even the lowest heat setting is enough to provide relief! No more burns! As for the stones, I find that the larger tourmaline stones create a “band” of warmth, so to speak, and on that area it feels like the bad gets more warm, and more weighted. I like this because I can place the band where I am in more pain and feel extra relief there. I don’t think there’s very many, if any, cons to these heating pads, but the only downside I would say is that they aren’t the most comfortable things to lay on at night. While I don’t mind sitting on my UTK pads during the day, laying flat on them tends to leave me feeling like I have pressure points. However, if my back is hurting, I can place the heating pad across my hips or lay on my stomach and place it on my back and get wonderful pain relief! As someone who has chronic pain in her joints and stomach, I would totally recommend these heating pads as a form of pain management. They do such a great job and helping me, and I have not found any heating pad that comes close to being as good as these.

I didn’t know whether this was going to be a scam or not, but we have a family member with deep joint pain who was using a very hot pad every day. I chose this because the heat was supposed to be less damaging, effective at lower-than-scalding temperatures, and possibly even therapeutic. My advice: get a larger size!! It works, and I don’t even care why! Lower temp, deeper heat, gradually reducing overall pain with daily use. I started using it too! I only wish that it was long enough to heat my whole back at the same time. Pulled muscles, strained muscles, ooh it feels so nice! This is very well-made. Cons: Yes, I did start with short sessions and the nausea subsided after a couple of uses. Yes, it takes a few minutes to warm up, so factor that in. I cover it with a pillow case, but the plug on the side makes it a little awkward. I may end up sewing my own lightweight washable covers.

This heating pad replaced our old stoneless pad. The stones make all the difference in the world. The build on this pad is made to last. Will buy another, as my wife has obtained mine. Highly recommended.

I purchased the Utk heating pad as I have lower back issues, knee problems and sciatica. I have found when I am in a lot of pain. The pad is relaxing and soothes the pain. Very glad I purchased it. It is not as flexible as one I borrowed from a friend as it has the jade and tourmaline stones. But they are also included in the healing process.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my back and I was on the brink of bulk purchasing adhesive heat patches when I decided to look into whether infrared heat would be the better solution - I am glad I chose infrared and glad I chose UTK. I think this is a wonderful and much simpler solution since with a single purchase I can have as much heat as I want, wherever I want (not just my back) and I use this heat pad every day. I can very easily use it while sitting in my computer chair, running my own online business, or I can use it sitting up in my bed or lying down, relaxing on the couch, and apparently some people use them in their car as well. I find the heat really great, especially increasing or decreasing the heat at the touch of a button. So far this has been very comforting and has helped relieve muscle tension that spreads like wildfire whenever I have a section of my back twinging and playing up. I haven't had this long enough to say whether it prevents pain or tension, but I can say it relieves it, and that I'm satisfied with my purchase.

I was sceptical spending $200 for a heat pad when I could find alternative non infrared heatpads for significantly less. I must admit, this mat has already paid for itself as I have felt significant improvement in some of my very sore spots when I followed my body massage with this heat pad. Some of my problem areas have improved by over 70% by way of my ability to move and the ongoing pain. I have only used it for a couple of months and already seeing results. I hope it heals all users as it did my sore muscles.

This heating pad heats up well as described. Works great. Is very uncomfortable though to lie on for long periods. You really need some sort of cover or blanket over it to be able to lie on it as the stones are so hard. It is only really good for the back as it’s too hard and inflexible to use for the neck.

Purchased this for my mum. She's 85 and having a few challenges with pain in her legs. I took a risk and purchased as mum doesn't usually go for any new or innovative products. I set it up on her bed at a comfotable temperature and she said that she probably wouldn't use it. Followed up a week later and found she's been using it 2-3 times a day. The pain hasn't gone away completely but she said that using this product relaxes her and certainly makes her feel a lot better. This is great news and much better to have time out a few times a day to relax and recharge and makes for a better day. Long term results will be interesting. The cat loves it too!
