Mastering Roses Volume 2: Petal Edge Techniques

A brilliant and helpful book for anyone learning to paint beautiful roses, by US contemporary master artist David Jansen. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is keen to paint in acrylic and loves to paint flowers, as these techniques can be used for not just roses but other flowers too.

This is a good tool for learning the technique. However, the book is full of typos which makes it a little less professional looking.

I own 3 of the currently 7 books in David’s Mastering Roses book series. I believe the series will extend to 10. They are all excellent, as are all of David Jansen’s products. David is an excellent teacher who painstakingly guides you step by step through creating the queen of flowers, the rose. Each book in the Mastering Roses series focuses on a different technique. There are four beautiful projects in this Volume 2 with Pink Rose Splendor focusing on basic edges, Casual Yellow Roses with casual edges, Heritage Roses with varied petals, and Queen Elizabeth Roses showing flow texture. There may be an occasional typo, but it effects the teaching absolutely zero. David has been a professional painter for over 30 years and his teaching style is very detailed and easy to understand.At the beginning of each book is a few pages on color theory, an explanation of the colors used in the limited palette, information on color mixing, a recap of basic rose techniques, and additional techniques used in David’s “Paint It Simply” series. A wealth of information.
