Short but Sweet
This is one of those awesome CDs where every song is different and amazing. Here's why u buy this... "INTO THE VOID" - the best cover of this Sabbath classic and easily the best cover of anything Sabbath you will ever hear! And its never even made it onto any of those "Nativity In Black" compilations - WAKE UP RECORD COMPANY EXECS AND DO YOUR JOBS PROPERLY !!! One of Kyuss' problems was lack of exposure and great tracks like this one are getting missed.I also read somewhere that Chris Goss (mate of Kyuss/producer/recorder) suggested they cover it as they were getting a lot of Sabbath comparisons but the band weren't even familiar with Sabbath. They liked the song and superbly re-represented it."Flip The Phase" is similar to Hurricane (RRRRROCK!) but when taken before "Fatso Forgotso" it seems to make sense... now take a trip... Amazing. The 'Queens tracks are incredible too. the original versions of "If Only" and "Born To Hula" found here are far better the later re-recordings and "Spiders And Vinegaroons" beautifully swirls and swamps and closes the CD perectly.

Supercosmic ultratrick spectaculorama.
As a Kyuss devotee, it's hard to find fault with this album beyond its being too short. You're [drawn] in early by a fine representation of Black Sabbath's "Into the Void", which is half a joke for any Kyuss follower from the band itself. Their sound is compared to the metal forerunners frequently enough that Kyuss members would chafe at the thought. Follow that with a long, meticulous, guitar-rich and heavy groove called Fatso Forgetso (you will find your CD deck locked on Repeat for hours). You'll then be carried through with little hesitation, in the best deep desert metal megagrooved rock fashion, to a wicked, unerthly, waiting for my spaceship-psychotic "Spiders and Vinegaroons," which is a perfect close to any long night of staring at the universe from a back road in Baja or Bakersfield. Press Repeat again and faze into the Milky Way for three hours. More treats on this album? The charming radio failure "If Only Everything," which proved a song can be too good for the bulk of its listenership to grasp, the frenetic and energetic traditional metal-distorted "Born to Hula," a song looking for a rugby keg party. And for more of the CA high desert vibe that permeates this supreme piece of musicianship, type vinegaroon into a search engine. [...]. This is a sensational piece of sound, Kyuss' penultimate moment. Zen on.jf

Wow
I'm a huge Kyuss and Queens fan, so when I found out they did a split, I knew I had to get it. The trouble is that the record company that distributed this album isn't around anymore, it'll be tough to find(ebay,ebay,ebay...). The cheapest I have found this disc for is 30 dollars, and at first I tought, "thats a bit steep for 6 songs."I was wrong. Enough of my bitching, I'll get to the review. The disc starts off with "Into the Void", and I must say that I think it sounds better than the original Sabbath recording. I've heard a bunch of negative reviews about "Fatso Forgotso", but I don't think its a half bad song. Kyuss ends their trio of songs with "Fatso Forgotso Part II" which I the shortest song on the album but arguably one of the best. Then I Queens Of The Stone Age. "If Only Everything" can be found on their self-titled debut, but I personally like this version better. Then comes "Born To Hula", another stand-out track. The EP finishes itself of with "Spiders and Vinegaroons" which is a strange instrumental that grows on you.All and all, this is a wonderful EP and is a must have for longtime Kyuss/QOTSA fans.

gem
This is a little gem of an "album". As stated it's a split kyuss and qotsa ( and early form of the band). The opening track is a great cover of black sabbath's Into the void. it just covers you in an umbrella of sound, not just a downpour of distortion per se, but a meticulously crafted rainstorm of groove. Also the one reason this stays in my c.d. player is the track "if Only" It's featured on the qotsa debut, but on here the sound is different and in my opinion much better. It's almost as if nirvana were palying the song with J. Homme still at vocals. Just friggin great. Another standout track is "Spiders and Vinegroons". It's almost there. It's an awesome rock-stomp, that could'vre been crafted into an amazing song, but falls a little short at the end. all in all for the kyuss & qotsa fans alike, it is a must have. Could've been an A+ album if only...

And also...
Great reviews for a great CD. A must have for all Kyuss & QOTSA fans, but as you are probably aware this label no longer exists, and with the recent increase in QOTSA's popularity is proving a difficult find. However, all is not lost. The track 'If Only Everything' is an early version of a song that appears on their eponymous debut album, there's not a lot of difference so...In the home of the over-priced and multiple CD singles (UK) you can also find 'Born to Hula' as an extra track on 'The lost Art' CD single. This is a re-recording and a much tighter version. 'Ode to Clarissa' is available on the second 'Lost Art'single as well.Happy listening, and buy this album if you can!

Worth it
If you are a hard core Kyuss or QOTSA fan, this CD is worth buying.Personally, I like the QOTSA tracks on this better. The Kyuss tracks are definitely Kyuss and mildly memorable, but they definitely aren't on the same level as 'Phototropic' and 'Freedom Run'. The QOTSA tracks, on the other hand, are awesome. A slower, sludgier 'If Only' shares the spotlight with the equally compelling 'Born To Hula'. 'Spiders and Vinegaroons' is a fairly interesting instrumental, mellow and hypnotic, but you probably won't find yourself humming its tune in the shower or anything.

A couple of winners on this CD
If you are a fan of QOTSA / Kyuss then this is a great CD for the collection. There is a great version of 'If Only' on there, and a few other winning tracks amongst other good numbers.

Master Of Reality
