Gave up on pin.
UPDATE: the picture is not correct. I installed the cable backwards and my steering direction was reversed and almost hit another boat!I did not bother to understand how the pin holds the cable. Drilled a pilot and used a self tapper, then flattened the end instead of using the quirky pin. I wouldn't recommend doing what I did because because if you mess up the modification, you can obviously lose steering.

Great fix if you just need a helm.
This product is exactly how it was described. Helm was installed in less than 10 min with minimal skill and effort. 10/10

Good replacement for existing installation
Purchased to replace an older Safe-T QC helm. Note that the Amazon product picture incorrectly shows the tilt helm! What I received has a standard threaded shaft (non-tilt) part number SH5094-1P. It also included the spent cable tube with a quick connect fastener. The amazon product listing is correct EXCEPT for using the wrong photo.

DANGEROUS product.
Extremely dangerous, rely on a clasp pin to hold the steering cable in place.Almost hit another boat. Been boating for 40 years never should’ve purchased this product.
