Awesome for Attic !!
Purchased to assist someone on/off the top of the attic ladder. I mounted it to verticle 2x4 that is next to the attic opening, so you need to reach over a couple of inches but it is perfect. When going up it becomes uncomfortable for some once they reach the door panel as it prevents the front of your foot from stepping onto the rung with the ball and arch of your foot - necessitating the need to grab ahold of something just as you begin to run out of ladder to hold onto. Although the hand rail is a few inches to the side, it is perfectly placed to continue up the last 4 rungs while remaining upright - vs either ending up on all fours to come off the ladder, or being precariously perched, doubled over with both hands and feet on the top rung! Naturally going down without the hand rail was just as horrifying - for both the individual and the one watching! Although now it's quite comical, it truly was an unsafe situation. Unfortunately it is typical of most attic access points. And companies addressing it are charging several hundreds of dollars for for a rail quite similar to this one! Actually this rail is even better bc it moves - the mechanism that allows it to fold flat agains the side of your trailer or motorhome works perfectly when needing it out of the way for moving bulky items onto or off of the side of the access way when bringing things up or down. Restricting the movement from the sides was my only concern about adding a rail up top, but the ability to move it out of the way makes it PERFECT! I will definitely be buying another when I find the right RV as well as for future attics. Overall the functionality, build quality, design and installation ease of this rail is great. I definitely recommend it for anywhere a railing would be of assistance. Note, this is NOT built for or meant to be a deterrent and will not hold your weight if leaning against or over it. But it's perfect to steady onself and even to pull yourself up or let yourself down - just like a handrail should.

Easy Project And Well Worth The Money For The Extra Safety
This handle is very sturdy and easy to install. We had a small hand rail but if we had to jack too much the steps would extend out and we had to reach before taking the first step. At the time I was getting a full right shoulder replacement and I needed something on the left side of the door that would help me in and out. This was easy project and is well worth the money for the extra safety.

Not just for RVs, can use it at the house too
Got this for an elderly person who has trouble going up and down the steps leading into the garage. Installation was a snap, the screws are really long and have a sturdy grip into the stud. The railing is a tiny bit wobbly due to the fact it can be folded out of the way when not in use. The wobbliness took a little getting used to but the folding part is helpful. Good grip and seems to able to hold a good amount of weight. Overall, good buy not just for RVs.

Some wiggle even with solid attachment to wall
I purchased this handrail to install next to the two steps leading in from our garage to the house. My husband is having issues with his balance and I wanted to give him the opportunity to have something to grab other than the door frame or doorknob to assist him. The rail came fully assembled with simple directions for installation on an RV. I put it up to the door frame and decided on a height that would be appropriate, then marked the three holes at the top and three at the bottom with a pencil, giving me a spot to drill pilot holes. Unfortunately only one of each hole (the furthest to the left) went into a stud. The other four holes needed #10-#12 self-drilling drywall screw anchors (plastic - not included) which I, fortunately, found in my toolbox. NOTE: This handrail is meant to be installed to the left, but I had to install mine on the right side of a door. Once the pilot holes were drilled (I did need to use a larger drill bit than the 1/8" in the directions to get the anchors in) I used a hand-tightening screwdriver to anchor the rail in place, tightening the screws closest to the door frame first and then the other four which had the anchors in the drywall. The attachment to the wall is solid, but there is a wiggle to the rail. This is probably because it does lift and fold to lay flush to the wall if desired. The insert says it's not meant to break a fall, but to provide stability. It's not a banister to slide on, however, it is enough to provide a grab bar and peace of mind for those with balance issues.

Good quality, heavy duty steel frame, easy to assemble
Had to drill on set of new holes to mount, used existing holes for other mount. Holes pattern matched.

Better than standard hand rails!
This handle should be standard on ALL RV Trailers! We installed this type on our last 5th wheel, and bought it again for our new 5th wheel. Helps my wife enter and exit the trailer must easier. Some say it's not sturdy, but it's NOT meant to STOP you from falling, and if you fall that easily you shouldn't be camping. It's meant to steady you getting up and down the RV steps as most standard hand rails only extend a short distance, this extends further out and down. It's built well, a good price, looks good and is the perfect size. Like I said, it's not meant to STOP you from falling, NONE of them do! It's to HELP steady you as you go up or down the stairs!
