Does it's job splendidly
This is a simple always on non contact tester that is a great value. It is very similar to the old discontinued Fluke tester that was always on. The old Fluke tester was my favorite style because of its simplicity. Of course being Fluke, the price was a premium also. This tester brings back the functionality of the Fluke at a fraction of the price.

Amprobe 4700987 VP-1000SB Non-Contact Voltage Probe
Overall this Amprobe VP-1000 NC voltage detector seems like its decently made but, since it doesn't have an audible beep, just a flashing red light, it will stay in the shop drawer. Without audible beep of any kind it is near useless to me in the field. I ordered it by mistake so my bad. Apparently the Amprobe VP1000 and VP1000SB are the same and neither have audible indication.

Amprobe made this?
It doesn't even deserve one star. This tester is going back. Just setting on the table it goes off. The only use I can see for this tester is duct taping it to my dogs collar so I know where he is. Save your money and buy a VP-600SB, if you can find one.

Its just ok
Ok so it does what it is made to do but I wasn't expecting some issues. 1 it doesn't beep when it goes off it just flashes, which I could over look of it wasn't for one major flaw that I feel is dangerous in this type of tool. It is constant on, my old klien ncv tester beeped when I turned it on, showed battery level and beeps when touching a live circuit. This is always on so you never know if it was going off while bouncing in your tool bag so you don't have any indication of the battery life or if it is working. So you will alway have to do a dead live dead test to confirm it is working and when you work in commercial settings when the nearest known live circuit is on the other side of the building it is a pain. You would be better off using a meter than this tool.

Nice tool
Nice tic tracer. It does however, beep a lot in your pocket not near voltage. But, that is also an indicator that is ready to use.

The best
I love the vibration aspect that other testers do not have. In noisy, bright locations it helps to be sure. I owner the 600 for many years but recently broke it so I replaced it with this one.
