Great book for babies-preschoolers
I bought this for my oldest child when she was a baby. She’s 4 now and I have a 2 year old as well, and this has always been a favorite book for both of them. When they were babies and little toddlers they loved seeing through the holes, like peek-a-boo.As they were learning animal names and sounds, it was great for prompting them to tell me the animal names and sounds. They loved to say the “cock-a-doodle-doo” on each page. The writing is a simple, repetitive format that preschoolers can “read along” with you. Now my 4 year old has it memorized, and she “reads” it to her younger sister all by herself. She is starting to recognize some of the short, repeated words, like “who.”

Pages too busy and animals too stylized.
I purchased this book because I liked the idea of having an opening in the page that showed the animal on the next page thus the child would have to name the animal before getting the answer. This would enforce the learning of animal names plus the pages also talk about the sounds animals make. Given all the positive reviews, I thought this would be the best farm book with peek-a-boo openings to purchase..... However, I am not quite a fan of the book for three reasons. 1. The first window opening shows chicks not chickens and even when you turn to the page it talks about hens and chicks but does not use the word chicken. Also the rooster is crowing throughout the entire book but is never named as a rooster or as a chicken. The book names all the other animals and babies, so why not the chickens? 2. The images of the animals are so stylized and artistic at times that kids are going to be confused as to what they are looking at especially the younger the child is.... for example, the sheep in the window opening has its head turned upward. It took even me a moment to figure out the image. The book should have put a much easier to decipher image of a sheep in the window. 3. The pages were too busy and over-packed so it was overwhelming at times and hard to focus on the main animal. 4. The wording is so awkward at times that I changed it to make it easier to read - and now we never read the text and just name animals and practice counting. On the positive side of things, the reverse of the window openings (when page was turned) focused on insects that kids could name including dragonfly, grasshopper, bee, butterfly, and fly. Overall, I find it to be the weakest book in the series but my son enjoys me making all those farm animals noises.

Such a wonderful book!
I read this book to my 16 month son almost every night. We both love it! I love the wonderful, cute and colorful pictures my son loves the pick a boo holes. The story is very simple but I just describe the scene in each picture to him and we point to all the animals imitating the sounds they make. it's such a beautiful and fun book
