This, like most charging bases, needs the weight of the controllers to hold it down in place. that's ok, though, as the controllers are a perfect fit so can be left on the charger indefinitely. Just be careful when you remove them, the base is very light. It's handy to not have to go searching for a cable that fits anymore, since I seem to lose them, and charging works just as well as with the cable.

Update: company was kind enough to give me my money back. Revised the review to reflect their excellent customer service Bought this dock so I can charge my controller without leaving my ps3 on. After pulling it out the box and hooking everything up controller seemed to be charging. Turns out after 6 hours it was not and I still had had bar left. Anyway long story short this device requires a usb data port plus an inconvenient way of having to turn on the ps3 docking the controller then turning off the ps3 just to get it to start charging. Would return in but I threw away the packing do guess I’m stuck with it.

I purchased this item to charge the new PS3 controllers I purchased for my son in case he had friends over to play. We plugged it up and plugged 2 controllers into it. Unfortunately, the controllers did not show a full charge and the other 2 controllers will not plug into the charger base. It was a waste of money.

I picked this up so that my controllers would actually be charged whenever I need them. it does need a data port, just like the ps3 controllers, otherwise they won't charge. The controllers are a bit hard to dock, and it takes me a solid 5 to 10 seconds to plug them in each time.

It'll work with stock ps3 controllers, but only barely and without much stability. Another annoying thing is that it's meant to plug directly into the ps3, meaning that you'd have to leave the ps3 on to charge your controllers. There's no magnets or physical guides for the charger ports, so you're basically just plugging your controller into an annoyingly rotated port. If they just made it a loose wire I honestly would have liked it more. Also, the usb ports are very shallow and positioned deep into the plastic, so it doesn't function with third party controllers at all. I ended up throwing this away and just keeping the charge cable instead for my controllers.
