A note to buyers that you need to prime chalk boards before you use them, or else they will keep a "ghost" of what you write on them. You need to do this with chalk, so make sure you have chalk, and leave some time for this step before using. I didn't realize this, so I ended up having to tape paper to the sign instead of using chalk for its first use. Not a big deal, but word to the wise!

I got this today, and I am so impressed with the quality and design of this board. It is gorgeous and very well made. It is a real chalkboard, not a painted chalkboard surface as other products I have tried. I used Chalk Ola Liquid chalk markers on it, and they work amazingly with this chalkboard. I have read reviews on the liquid chalk leaving "ghosting" on this board; however, I had to erase several times when decorating mine, and the liquid chalk came off with warm water and a towel. I agree with others who said that the key is using "quality" liquid chalk markers and not the cheapies. I will be using this sign mainly for first/ last days of school for my kids, but the possibilities are endless with this chalkboard. I could not be happier with this purchase! It is worth every penny!

This is a good chalkboard. I deducted a star because I had to remove chipped wood from the edge of the board. It came with instructions about how to prime the chalkboard prior to first usage. (To prime the chalkboard and combat ghosting on it, lay a piece of chalk on its side and cover the entire board. Rub it with a dry paper towel/rag to fill the pores in the chalkboard. Repeat the process one more time.) Priming provided me a smooth and easy-to-write-on surface. I used “VersaChalk Wet Erase Chalk Ink Pens, 5 mm, Multicolor” to write on it. The final outcome was beautiful. To erase the writing, I used “Chalkola Natural Chalkboard Cleaner.” I recommend this product and ask the manufacturer to improve the quality of the wooden frame of the chalkboard.

This is a nice product, very professional looking and not cheap at all.... but I wouldn't consider it "heavy duty" like in the description. I decided to put some more varnish on it (I don't feel like it had any on initially), and I still wouldn't let it get wet. It's a good weight to it though, so I don't worry about wind. This guy sits outfront of my office for advertising.

This is a terrific chalkboard. They provided very clear instructions on how to "prime" it, with several call out stickers to make sure you know to do it. It's very simple to prime, you just use a piece of chalk sideways to cover the whole chalkboard once. This lets the white chalk soak into any porousness of the chalkboard, so that when you start to use it and erase the words you write will actually disappear. It only took about 5 minutes to prime it, and then we were off to the races. I love that it's also magnetic so you can use it as a chalkboard or as as a magnetic board (or both). This was a great purchase - we were very happy with it.

Much better quality than I expected. Exceptionally well packaged. (I use this sign at a local market and keep it in the original packaging in my van. Works perfectly.) Sturdy and solid. The opposite of rickety. I used permanent chalk so I can't speak to if the surface ghosts. I am very happy with my choice!

We followed the directions word for word. Used it one time and used the mr clean magic erasers like it said to clean it . After a lot of scrubbing it won’t come clean. It was a wonderful idea but this is junk

This product arrived in perfect condition. It's made extremely sturdy. Make sure you follow the instructions about preparing the chalkboard for use. You'll need real chalk and not chalkboard markers to prep.
