best mower sharpener ever
Sharpening mower blades dulls a file. A bench grinder doesn’t let you see. An angle grinder lets you see, but the speed (150 mph) makes it tricky. It can be imprecise and require the hassle of rebalancing. An edge wouldn’t stay very sharp. I suspect that a wheel spinning that fast can overheat a thin edge. At top speed, my sander scrapes at 20 mph, so it’s much less likely to overheat an edge. A belt is much cheaper to replace than a file. When I start to sharpen, the polished steel shows when I’m aligned on the bevel. When I stop to feel for a burr along the edge, I paint the polished steel with a marking pen. That will show when the sander is again aligned on the bevel. It will also show any low spots. My blades came out sharper than new. All stayed in balance. After mowing an acre, a blade still felt sharp enough to peel an apple. Clover is sappy in the spring. Other plants can also be sappy, depending on the season. Sappy clippings are sticky. They accumulate under decks. The mower won’t work as well, and it causes corrosion. It can resist hosing. I’d have to raise my riding mower to scrape the deck before putting it away. I’d have to stop mowing to tip up my walking mower and scrape off the buildup. Sharp blades produce clippings that aren’t sappy. I don’t normally have to scrape a deck before putting a mower away. When necessary, I can even mow wet grass. Some leaves would mulch nicely with a mower. Oak leaves resisted it. The pieces would be too small to smother the grass but big enough to look messy. By cutting oak leaves into smaller pieces, a sharper blade can make them disappear. I fastened a crosspiece to a post. I put the blade on the board with the edge overlapping slightly, then drop a couple of nails into holes so that the sander won’t push the blade back. I may put a brick on the middle. This is quicker than using a table and chair, but there’s a bigger advantage. The board is twelve inches below eye level. At that height, it’s easier to maintain an angle, and I can watch up close. The thickness of the steel divided by the width of the bevel is the sine of the angle, so the angle can be found with a caliper and a calculator. If the ratio is half, the edge is the standard 30 degrees. Update: This system works nicely on chipper blades and lopper blades. I screw the chipper blades to the rail.

Good, inexpensive tool. But belt changing should be easier.
For a very inexpensive power tool, this surpassed my expectations. At least thus far. I've only had it for a few weeks, so I can't speak to overall durability. Pros: It has been a workhorse for me during a deck refinishing project at my house. I've pushed it hard for over an hour at a time and it's held up. The sanding action works well and it gets into so many places my other sanders can't. The belts are relatively inexpensive and if you use the tool correctly, you don't burn many up. Cons: Changing the belt is harder than it should be. Getting the existing belt off is easy. You push in on the end and it clicks in place to relieve the tension so it allows for swapping very easily in that regard. The problem is, it won't pop back out into its normal tension placement. I've tried just about everything. I always end up having to almost fully remove the tensioning adjustment screw (with a Phillips head screwdriver) and then pulling and tweaking the track to get it to finally pop back out. This is a design flaw. Also, the unit will put off a lot of heat as it's running. Can get uncomfortable to handle if you run it for very long. Overall, I don't regret the purchase. I wish it were easier to change the belts, but for the money, it's paid for itself with just this one deck sanding project.

Outstanding Detail Sander that's perfect for tight spaces
The WEN 6307 Variable Speed Detailing File Sander is a fantastic tool for precision sanding in hard-to-reach areas. The variable speed control allows for great versatility, making it easy to adjust for different materials and projects. It’s lightweight, easy to handle, and the belt changes are quick and simple. The narrow sanding belt is perfect for detailed work, and it removes material efficiently without being overly aggressive. It’s been a game-changer for my woodworking and metalworking projects. For the price, the performance and build quality are outstanding. Highly recommend

Worked great!
Works great! This tool allows you to reach the spaces your other sander cannot reach. And honestly, it removed the material quicker than my orbital sander and belt sander albeit much smaller space and surface area. Definitely worth the money. Also, one last thing, when you call WEN for product support, you reach a person in the US.
