Used to have internet connection drop-out with my previous dongle which was quite annoying. However now with the BrosTrend USB WiFi 6 Dongle Long Range 1800Mbps, no issues.

BrosTrend USB WiFi 6 Dongle Long Range 1800Mbps, AX1800 USB WiFi Dongle for PC, Wireless Dual This dongle is a bit different to others I have used in that it has a built-in memory card which contains the driver software. Contrary to some other reviews I found this very easy to install. A quickstart card in various languages is included that helps with installation which took no more than 5 minutes. Card is shown in one of the pictures. It comes with quite a thick cable about 1m long and isn’t very flexible, this has a USB-A on one end and a Micro-B-Superspeed connector on the other end. The dongle is just about heavy enough to resist the inflexibility of the cable but could probably do with a little extra weight or a sticky pad to hold it down. The unit has two high gain antennas that can be rotated through 180° in one direction and 90° in the other. This dongle picked up many more Wi-Fi signals than before, more than with my other Wi-Fi dongles so must be able to connect to other houses some distance away (although of course I did not attemt to do so but shows how it can connect to distant roters very easily). So in conclusion: Very easy to setup, fast speed & long range.,extremely good signal quality.

When it works it’s very fast, initially it was totally unreliable. The driver crashed my PC (Windows 11) even using the driver from Brostrend website. Since my original scathing review I have re-installed my Windows 11 operating system. Although this adapter is not “plug & play” and the driver is not an approved one by Microsoft, it does now seem to work. Ensure you remove any old adapter drivers off your PC. It may be why mine worked after the reinstalled Windows (bit of a pain re loading all your apps and programs). Anyway I’m getting very fast WIFI 6 speeds now. Obviously you need a WIFI 6 router.

On first use this worked great, plugged in and after a reset my PC was getting a 280mbps wi-fi connection, not bad since the router is two rooms away with a solid stone wall in between. But ever since then it has been a complete pain. If the computer is switched off or does an update, this device disconnects the wi-fi and switches itself off. Which means you have to wade through the Windows settings to find how to switch it back on and then reconnect to the wi-fi. Even then it sometimes won't connect, or even uninstalls itself from Windows. There is no pattern to when it does these things, I suspect it is haunted. So when it works it works really well, but nobody knows when this will be or what cosmic forces control its moods. I've had it for a few weeks and I'm so sick of it, that it's getting returned as faulty.

Seems to work well out of the box with minimal faffing about. Would like a longer cable with it to mount higher up on the wall. Does drop out every now and again, but not checked settings yet and will adjust rating accordingly after.

Very easy to install and sends strong WiFi signal.

I picked up this rosTrend USB WiFi 6 adapter because the built-in Wi-Fi on my motherboard is pretty weak. It supports both 5GHz and 2.4GHz, but the speeds on my internal card have always been underwhelming. I wanted something faster and with better range, and this ended up being a noticeable upgrade. Setup on Windows 11 was easy. When I plugged it in, it automatically opened the folder with the driver installer. After installing the driver and restarting my PC, it was up and running. One thing I would recommend: if you’re planning to use this as your main wireless connection and your PC already has built-in Wi-Fi, disable the old internal adapter first so you don’t have conflicts. The driver is supported by windows 10 and 11 I confirmed that after restart. Performance has been very good for me. I’m using this in a basement with thick concrete walls, and I was still able to get around 248 Mbps. On my internal Wi-Fi card, I was getting closer to 123 Mbps in the same location, so this was a pretty major jump. My Ethernet connection tops out around 330 Mbps, so this adapter gets surprisingly close for a wireless solution. The Bluetooth side also worked fine, and overall stability has been good. Streaming video and regular browsing have been seamless. I haven’t tested it for gaming or live streaming yet, but for normal internet use it’s been solid. My ping stayed about the same, but the faster download/upload speeds were definitely noticeable. Build quality feels good too. The adapter doesn’t feel cheap, and it only gets a little warm in use, not dangerously hot. It has venting on the bottom to help with heat, and the external antennas help a lot with range compared to the tiny nano-style adapters. That’s probably one of the biggest reasons it performs so much better in my setup. One thing some people might complain about is that it doesn’t use USB-C. Personally, that didn’t bother me much. It uses the older Micro-B style USB 3.0 connector, which you often saw on older external hard drives. USB-C would have been nicer for standardization, but it’s not a dealbreaker. Important note: this is a Windows-only device. It’s intended for Windows 10 and Windows 11, so I wouldn’t pick this up expecting Linux or Raspberry Pi compatibility. Overall, this is a very solid USB Wi-Fi adapter if your built-in Wi-Fi is weak and you want a simple way to improve speed and range on a Windows PC. In my case, it was a noticeable upgrade right away.
