Good drive. Good price.
(for details on the drive, please skip down the page, underneath my rant) The product arrived on the date it should have, nice and early in the day. However, despite being in the house, waiting for the delivery, the driver 'presumed' that nobody was home and left it with a neighbour. WHY ?!?!?!? I have no idea. Odd if you ask me. Then on top of that, he never left a card to say its been left with a neighbour. So the only way to trace it was when later in the day I saw it said delivered and managed to trace the signature to a neighbour. However I am new to the area and this was a major annoyance. Its not hard to knock.... or ring the bell.... or leave a 'sorry you were not home card' ____________________________ REVIEW ON THE DRIVE This drive was well reviewed and in some ways appears superior to the caviar black, especially on 1TB models like mine. The price was good (despite nearly a £1 rise overnight) I have had bad experiences in the past with Seagate. So tend to stick to brands i have had good experiences with. Sony, Samsung, Zalman, Corsair etc The drive is fast, has 1TB of storage. Its SATA3 with a 64mb buffer. So performs nicely. The only grueling thing done so far was copying files over from an old SATA 1-250GB blue. The writing speed was impressive. Several groups of 40-60GB in less than 10 minutes each. 5/5 for the drive 5/5 for speedy shipping 1/5 for stupid parcel force man 2/5 for packing - 1 end of the drive was un-bubblewrapped.

The drive arrived today, and I installed it in the system, and it's working perfectly. No issues.

1TB version of this drive is fast.
This is a great drive if you buy the 1TB version - it's faster than some WD Black drives in some tests. I've bought about 6 of these drives and 2 of them have had heavy use. One of them started to fail after about 5 years use so that's fair enough. I recovered the sectors that were messed up so no harm done. It's really failing now but at least it's dying gracefully. The other drives have not had such heavy use. So get this for speed and also for the fact it is a CMR tech drive.

Bought as a replacement for a dead Seagate hard drive in Buffalo external USB Drive Station
Arrived in reasonable time scale . Product as described . Fitted into Buffalo External USB drive casing and partitioned into 3 . Music Collection, Pictures and Video Files, Laptop complete backup. Working so far with about half the disk space used . Speed of file transfer reasonable and speed of access to the thousands of Mp3 music tracks when drive plugged into Samsung Blue Ray player usb port is quite fast . Music plays with no problems with little noise and heat from the WD drive. The original Seagate hard drive in the Buffalo external drive had lasted a few years (failed due to being knocked over ! ) so I reserve final judgement on this drive but pleased so far. As good as the Seagate drive at a budget price. If it lasts the test of time would give it 5 stars. Note this drive is not partitioned or formatted on arrival. When attached to computer use disk management utility and this will show drive as unallocated . Need to partition and format. Plenty help on internet to do this just Google it.

Great Value for Money.
Western Digital are reliable. I have had more than a few mechanical drives fail on me but none of them have been Western digital. The drive is silent and great value for money. No cables come with this unit so if you do not have a new build and are purchasing this to add in an extra drive as opposed to replacing an old one do make sure you purchase the data cable and ensure that you have the power source cable as well or if you have a serial like mine which has four sockets in it, make sure one of the is free. So what can go wrong? Well for one thing since it is an unformatted drive, when you install it your computer will not show it on the "My computer" window in windows 7. You need to format the drive to NTFS (windows 7) and then it will show up. Partition the drive if you would like to and it should work well. Don't go returning the unit to Amazon as faulty as the next one will do exactly the same thing. (I didn't know this and looked at a video from newegg and it mentions this issue on new hard drives) Other than that its good reliable and cheerfully cheap. I have never installed a hard drive or built a new computer from scratch, but this was one of the easiest parts to install. Make sure you install it in the right data socket on your mother board as usually the new ones come with several SATA 6 and slower ones.

Great HDD for a Great Price
This is my favourite Hard Drive of all the ones I tried. It offers great speed, great reliability and all that for a great price. Firstly, Its blazing fast. It doesn't take long to boot and once it boots any folders and files open instantly. File transfers between two of these discs are fast and stable without stutters. Another amazing thing about this HDD is its longevity. I had one for two years already and It is still perfectly fine and I haven't even noticed any performance degradation. I never had any corrupted files or any other problems. One problem I have is that I only purchased a 1TB one :) I now have 2x1TB ones and they're already almost full. My advice, buy the largest capacity you are willing to pay for. Also, maybe look into an SSD as those are so much faster (I'm talking almost instant boot up) and they are becoming cheaper now. The price is amazing for such a high quality hard drive and I definitely recommend it to anyone building a computer or looking for replacements. Easy installation as with any hard drive and you should have zero problems installing an OS or any programs/files to it right away.

Rs 14,999 paid, but received a defective product. It started clicking when plugged into my desktop on Day-0. It's called "click of death" when HDD has a mechanical failure. It was dead on arrival. Amazon refused to refund or replace as it does not qualify for returns. I tried explaining that the HDD is defective, but to no avail. Rs, 15,000 just gone; or so I thought. Now, went to the Western Digital Service center for warranty coverage. They said I will get it back in 7-10 days. One day full wasted travelling to the service center. After 10 days, I plan to go for holidays. It is a total mess. The product was received without any visible damage to the package. Imagine Amazon and WD colluding to get rid of defective product this way. Looking at reviews, I am not the first one to have received a defective HDD. See the video of the click of death sound. Its risky to buy non-returnable products from Amazon. Customer now has to run around, and at the en,d I will get a re-furbhished product.

This is my first 3.5' HDD in a very long time. Amazon dropped it off on the porch, was worried about how they handled it (did they toss the box onto the ground perhaps?). I was kind of against buying a drive online over going to a brick and mortar store because of the fear of it getting banged (drives don't like being hit or shaken). It came in the original unopened box that was in a thin bubble pack mailer. Bought it mainly as a place to store my hobby YouTube channel content (videos, and related media), as well as for future proofing as a long-term storage option. The drive was easy to install and set up. Just mount it within your case, plug in two cables. Then, for drives over 2TB (like the 4TB I bought) you need to manually format it to work in Windows. I've never done this before and it took me like 20 minutes of online research (the manuals WD gives access to doesn't show how to do this) and then a few clicks in Windows, and voila! A brand new formatted 4TB HDD. Ran CrystalDiskInfo and it seems there are no issues, and the drive is running very well. Very silent. It has double the read and write speed of the HGST 7200rpm drive I replaced it with (my old drive was starting to show pending sector counts and is several years old). Not sure if the HGST is SRM, though. It also has nearly double the read and write speed of the other 2TB 5400rpm 2.5 inch CRM drive on my PC right now, according to CrystalDiskInfo. I was surprised that although both are 5400rpm CRM drives, the WD Blue is significantly faster. I was able to copy ~300 GB of info in like 35 minutes. The WD Blue shows about 217 MB/s read sequential, 2.20 random. 213MB/s write sequential, 2.50 random. This is for 8GB files of the size I will normally be working with. Overall, I am pleased with the new WD Blue 4TB drive. It's silent, has surprising performance, and seems to be fully functional. Time will tell whether I got a lasting drive (they say that if your drive lasts a year it will probably last many years).
