Spot on
As with all Derwent products, these are exceptional. The subtle pigments are perfectly mixed and so easy to use. I find that holding the Pencils 90 degrees to the surface and exposing the full core gives amazing results. You can with a sensible pressure use them with a point just like a normal pencil, even though they are Charcoal based. I use these along with the Tainted XL Charcoal Blocks and love doing so.

Excellent soft blendable artist quality pencils
Excellent quality charcoal pencils with a subtle amount of colour. The box contains 24 pencils: 20 colour tinted, 1 white, 3 grades of black. All are soft and blend well.Would love more colour range, especially flesh tones. Though all pencils can be overlaid/smudged/blended together.Having charcoal in pencil form is much less mess than raw charcoal - though both have their place. The charcoal content means they are not as slick/smooth across the page as eg LightFast range. Not quite as smooth as pencil pigments in binders such as oil, wax or gum.The slightly increased friction and a little shedding of pigment with friction on the page is to be expected from charcoal.Due to the mix of charcoal and darker pigments they should in theory all be light fast.Recommended.

Lovely set of charcoal pencils
Lovely set of charcoal pencils. Some of the colours are quite similar to each other, but they are fun to use and of good quality, as expected from Derwent. Great for sketching. Charcoal can be a bit messy but these pencils are nice to use since you can keep your fingers cleaner, unless of course you use your fingers to blend the charcoal on the paper, which I like to do!

best quality for the money
I love Derwent pencils, they know their products very well for the needs of various levels of advancement of artists anfd hobbyists. And this selection proves it, again. The graphic design of the tin cover is perfect for giving a gift to someone or treat yourself - and this is another set of pencils I bought from Derwent. I couldn't wait for it to arrive so I can try them out. These pencls encourage to explore new drawing techniques. Very happy again!

Good selection of colours that give a vintage, nostalgic feel to your work
This is a quality selection of muted autumnal colours. The pencils are easy to use and they are real charcoal so you get all the effects you're used to but without the messy fingers. You can sand them to a point if you don't want to sharpen. I tend to use a knife to trim back the wood and then sandpaper the tip lightly. I don't know how much charcoal I'm saving but it's become a habit now.I made a mistake in ordering and left the default settings so got the pack of 12 - the pack of 24 is offered on the same page but you have to actively pick that button.

Nice addition
I bought these as an addition to the tinted charcoal paint pans I bought. They are very nice and lay down very well.

Tinted charcoal pencils
Good quality pencils as one would generally expect from Derwent. However the "colour" range is essentially 24 shades of drab which does somewhat detract from the actual usefulness of the product! Expect my set to last me out quite easily! As a post script i have to concur with many other reviewers in that some of the pencils cannot be sharpened as they just break every single time. I presume the charcoal " lead" in these particular pencils must be faulty as it doesnt happen with all of them? On the plus side i must say that i have actually enjoyed working with them and am generally very pleased with the results. The tints are indeed very subtle/ barely discernible though and its just a real shame they are so darn fragile.
