Is it normal for betas not to eat when you first get them? Do they need to be kept warm? Can i use warm water for him, I do not have a thermometer?

You can use a people thermometer in the new water if u don't have a fish thermometer needs between 74 to 80 degrees

If you feed 5 - 10 pellets twice a day, about how long would this package last? I'm guessing 2 - 3 months?

I have fed my betta 1 pellet in the morning and two in the evening and she has been healthy for the last two years. 5-10 is definitely too much and will probably cloud the water if it doesn't eat them. If u do choose to go that route then I would agree with kcharn, prob a month for 10 and two months for 5. But over feeding is bad for your betta!
