I am impressed
I use this caddy to house a 1TB Samsung EVO 840 SSD that I salvaged from my old but alas, dead HP Pavilion laptop.I use paragon Hard Disk Manager for backups of my new Huawei MateBook D 14 2020 notebook. When compared with an old HDD in a USB 2 caddy, backups are completed in just 10% of the previous times (when attached to a USB 3.1 port). That's pretty impressive. CrystalDiskMark confirms the excellent performance. The caddy is easy to use, you just slide the HDD/SSD in and close the lid! A foam pad is provided to prevent the disk device rattling about. However, I found that despite the Samsung SSD being very slim, the pad was unnecessary and everything is secure. The caddy is generally well made and very sturdy.Indeed, I have no issues at all - and I am very pleased with my purchase. It may cost a bit more than some similar caddies on Amazon - but, IMHO, its well worth it.

Fast, useful and excellent value for money - highly recommended
I've been using these types of devices for years for data transfer, backup and ultimately just portable storage but this is possibly the most useful version yet. The ability to open and swap drives without a screwdriver is brilliant! So simple to use.In the box you'll find the caddy, USB cable, padding and instruction manual. There's a locking switch to hold the door closed.I used this with a 7,200 rpm drive and SSDs and the speed was excellent over USB 3. I was able to boot from the drive on Mac and it appeared to run almost as fast as the native HDD. Copying files was also snappy and my Windows machine copied a modest 250GB Steam library in about 25 minutes. The only negative is that the plastic chassis doesn't seem to be as durable as other metal cased devices I own, but careful use should see it last a good while.

Nice idea, but not without problems
Item arrived quickly and is very easy to open and insert the hard drive. The caddy itself is plastic, yet feels sturdy with a nice length usb cable (approx 1 metre long).Loading the caddy onto the Windows 7 PC is effortless, no drivers to install, just simple plug and play but I was disappointed that the first time using it and copying 100GB of pictures my PC, for the first time in 8-years of ownership, displayed the dreaded BSOD (blue screen of death). This could be a bad hard drive and will try again soon*******EDITED*******On posting the review, initially at 3-star Inateck customer service got in touch to look into the problem. I have to say I've been very impressed with how they have handled my problem and happy to say the issue has been resolved.

Very sturdy with a good thick USB3 cable.
I bought a cheaper one the day before I ordered this one. That one broke within a minute of me unpacking it. I then saw this one on Amazon and remembered that I have a USB hub from inateck which has never let me down. It came the next day and was a world apart form the cheaper one. Nice solid construction and a big thick cable which allows me to get excellent transfer speeds. I also bought another 500GB SSD drive to replace my laptop hard drive so I slid it into this enclosure, plugged it into a USB3 port and used the free version of Minitool Partition tool to transfer Windows 10 and all my installed programs onto it. It took about 22 minutes. There were absolutely no issues or disconnects so I opened up my laptop, removed the old hard drive and put the new one in it's place. Booted straight up. If this case wasn't up to the job it could have all gone badly wrong. Superb product. In fact I've just ordered another one to house the old hard drive that came out of my laptop so I can use that as storage.

handy peice of kit
bought one to make use of a smaller SSD drive I just replaced, works great - have since bought another 2 along with a 1tb ssd to upgrade my ps4 space. I'm able to load red dead redemption 2 from the story/online screen in about 30seconds, which is a big improvement, even with it working through USB 3 - just to give you an idea of the speeds you can achieve. Fairly sure my normal mechanical drive in my ps4 was double that.very easy device to use, you can swap in and out drives with ease. handy lock switch on the back so you don't open it easily.the only critism I would give it would be that I doubt it would be that sturdy if you intend to carry it around in a bag - there is no padding around the drive, and some smaller drives feel fairly loose - there is a pad you can put inside for that though included in the box.Since all I want it for is sitting on a shelf I'm gonna stick with the 5 stars though.

Great way to possibly save a broken potable hard drive
I owned a Seagate portable hard drive which decided to stop working one day. Being the type of bloke that never backs up a lot of important photos I thought all was lost.Up for a challenge, I decided to take the portable hard drive apart and found that all it was is a 2.5" hard drive with a separate power board inside with a Sata type connector. I bought this enclosure which comes complete with a power board and sata adapter built in and inserted the hard drive.. well blow me down, it only works. The drive was never at fault just the little power board.. So now I have a working portable hard drive again, and I will certainly be backing the drives up in future.

Adequate but flimsy.
I'm updating my review as I awarded two stars for being slow. However I have tested my 1TB Samsung 850 Evo drive in two other USB3 caddies and I still get the same speed results 375 MB/s Read/Write. The drive states it should be capable of 520-540 MB/s Read/Write but I've yet to see this with any USB3 caddy I have tested. Without being able to test the drive in a computer, either Samsung is way overstating the drive's performance or all the USB 3 caddies I have used use a similar chipset. It is still however very cheaply made, horrible plastic tacky design and feels very flimsy I opted to get an Orico model, nice metal tool free design but speed increase. The Inateck does what it is supposed to. Houses a drive but no design awards I'm afraid.
