Phox filtered Water is Alkaline - Does live up to the claims of between 8.0 – 9.5 pH
UPDATE : (changed to 5 stars ***** from 1 star *)Since my original review (which you can see below) I got in touch with the manufactures, Phox, to enquire about the pH level of their filtered water as I was not getting readings of pH 8-9.5. I used both pH strips and a digital pH meter reader (straight out of the box) and both sets of reading were more or the less the same (showing Phox filtered water to be around the 7/7.5 pH level).Phox were surprised with my readings and responded that in their experience pH meters can very hard to calibrate for the first time and if it hasn’t been calibrated correctly it may be giving an erroneous reading (however in my case both the meter and strips were giving the same readings for the different water samples I was testing so assumed that they were correct). Phox sent me a bottle of pH testing reagent drops to see what kind of readings I got with the drops. In the past week I’ve also done a bit of research online and have found that pH strips don’t always give accurate readings for purified/filtered water (as I’d imagine the same would apply to an un-calibrated pH meter):“Litmus paper and pH test strips are designed to determine the pH of liquids such as chlorinated pools, saliva, and urine. These liquids all have minerals, salts, electrolytes, and many other substances dissolved into them. These factors affect not only pH but another important level: Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Litmus paper and pH strips only report accurately for substances with more than 150 ppm TDS. Purified/filtered TDS levels are typically less than 30ppm, keeping it well below the ability of a pH strip to provide an accurate reading.”When the pH testing drops arrived from Phox I used 4 drops in each of the different water samples and the results I got were as follows (see the attached picture to see that change in the colour of the water after putting the drops in):7.4 Tap Water6.0 Brita filtered water8.5 Phox filtered water8.5 Phox chilled filtered waterI’m going to have to eat humble pie and admit I got it wrong the first time. Phox water DOES change tap water into Alkaline water. It tastes so much fresher than tap water (and Brita filtered water – which I’ve been drinking for 6 years now and I’ve just realised after all these pH tests that it’s actually acidic!!!! – at around pH 6.0). I’ve been using the Phox jug for a week now (filling it twice per day on average) and am loving the taste of the fresh water. Only once (on the first day) did it get ‘stuck’ and I had to give the filter a good shake and everything’s been fine since then.Would highly recommend Phox and only wish I’d stumbled upon them sooner.ORIGINAL REVIEW POSTED ON 4TH DECEMBER 2018 (1 STAR *)Phox filtered Water is not Alkaline - Does not live up to the claims of between 8.0 – 9.5 pHI was advised to drink Alkaline water so decided on the Phox water filter jug. For the past 6 years I’ve been using a Brita filter tank at home. I drink approx 2/2.5 litres of water at home each day.On receiving the Phox jug I decided to check the ph of the filtered water using ph strips. To my surprise they showed the same ph as my tap water (7/7.5). I thought maybe the strips are not that accurate so I ordered a digital ph tester from amazon and the next evening repeated the experiment. To my surprise the results were more or less the same.I tested tap water, Brita filtered water, Phox filtered water and chilled Phox filtered water. I tested each water sample 4 times (and in random order) and the average is as follows:7.17 Tap water5.29 Brita filtered water (I was very surprised by this result –a reduction of nearly 2.0pH)7.39 Phox filtered water7.30 Phox chilled filtered waterMy tap water has an average pH level of 7.17 and filtering it via the Phox increased it to an average of 7.39 (just over a 3% increase in pH). The claim that this can increase the pH level of your water to between 8– 9.5 (an increase of between 12% - 33% in my case) is not the case here.I am in a hard water area and initially thought maybe this could be the reason for my poor results but then dismissed this theory as the Brita filter is able to reduce the pH of my tap water by nearly 2.0 (can't believe I've been drinking acidic water for the past 6 years!!!). So the Phox should in theory be able to live up to its claims of increasing the pH level to between 8.0 – 9.5.Could I have a faulty/broken filter? I’ll contact the manufactures and update if there are any changes.

Amazing jug!!! Better than pH refresh
This is THE best water filter jug out there in my opinion. I have owned a Brita ( terrible) and pH Refresh ( turned up cracked and so had to send back but was not too disappointed as the plastic looked very thin and brittle and the old fashioned styling white with the blue hued transparent plastic wasn't really my cup of tea but I had ordered it on the credentials) The Phox was my second choice but had I have known how brilliant it is it would definitely have been my first choice. It arrives in a really nice cardboard box, everything has a nice minimalist design to it from the box it arrived in to the jug itself. The jug is sturdy and chunkier , more robust than the pH Refresh, the Phox brand name is nice looking with the black. The transparent plastic doesn't have that horrible blue hue to it. lid fits nicely, filter screws in well and the jug pours nicely. The difference in taste and texture compared to tap water is incomparable. The water is softer and wetter( !!) gone is the clagginess and chemical taste of tap water. I am so impressed. Definitely made the right choice.

Excellent customer service and water, not so good meters and stock levels
After doing some research about water filter jugs and the benefits of alkaline water I decided to give it a go on the Kinetic Water jug. Having used Brita for a long time and knowing they're market leaders for this type of product, I can't quite understand why they don't have alkaline ones (as far as I'm aware) in their range of water filter jugs. First of all I have to say that the people behind Kinetic Water provide a 5 star customer services. I had concerns about the lack of stock availability in particular the replacement filter, considering this product is sold exclusively on Amazon (contrary to Brita which you can find everywhere). After contacting them directly I received a prompt reply explaining that they're having a higher demand than expected but are reviewing their stock levels strategy. They offered a second replacement filter for free next time I needed one. When I received the jug I was impressed with the design although the plastic material is not that sturdy, but the lid fits perfectly well and there are no water spillages at all. After following the instructions in the leaflet for first time use, unfortunately the reading meter on the lid didn't work as the battery appeared to be completely dead. I contacted Amazon Customer Services and asked whether they could send me a replacement of the lid only as I wasn't interested in a replacement of the whole thing and neither wished a refund (as this wasn't a major problem for me - not having a meter reader). A prompt reply came along with an explanation that they would send me a replacement of the actual meter reader and would give me a refund of £10 for the inconvenience (which they did). The new meter reading arrived shortly after and it was easy to fit it in the slot on top of the lid (there are simple instructions on the Kinetic Water website on how to do this). Excellent customer services for both the company and Amazon, I was impressed.Now... the alkaline water. I love water and aim to drink at least 2 litres a day. On my first tasting I also had a glass of tap water and one with Brita water. There is definitely a big difference in relation to tap water, but not as much as I thought in relation to Brita water. However, after a few days of drinking alkaline, the taste seemed to settled more and the difference got stronger after a few days. The way I can describe the alkaline water is this: very light and clear with a sense that "something is missing". It's very easy to swallow as you get a feeling of drinking glacier water, pure and crystalline. I also like the fact that the jug is big enough to not having to refill it all the time. Personally I don't like to use the hole on the lid to fill up the jug so I remove the lid and just place it under the tap. The fact that it doesn't fit in the fridge door doesn't bother me as I prefer not so cold water.Overall, excellent product with attractive price tag but they need to improve the quality of the meter readers and check out those stock levels. Better, have it available in physical shops too.
