Bilt Hamber BH-AW1 Auto Wheel Cleaner Review: Worth Every Penny
This Bilt Hammer BH-AW1 wheel cleaner is a game-changer for anyone with dirty wheels. The non-acid, pH-balanced formula works wonders without being harsh on the surface. It's super easy to use, and its colour-changing formulation makes it clear when it’s time to rinse off. I used it on some pretty grimy wheels and didn’t even need to scrub. It's definitely a solid product for the price.

Easy to use and very effective!
It's true! This stuff is magic. Spray it on, wait 5 minutes and hose it off. No brushing or scrubbing. Not the cheapest but it really is the best,!

Brilliant, smells unique but cleans the brake dust etc off wheels perfectly, very satisfying.

works with some elbow grease!
My allows were in dire need of restoration. I had neglected to clean them over many years and they were caked in brake dust and grime. The week before I purchased Wonder Wheels Super Alloy Wheel Cleaner which was rubbish. It made no difference to my wheels and would not eat into the brake dust.I decided to give Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel Cleaner a go. I liberally sprayed the cleaner onto the wheels and left for a few minutes. The cleaner started to react with the dirt, changing the colour to purple. It was a very messy job agitating with a stiff alloy wheel brush. It had definitely started to shift the first and I could start to see the brake dust on the wheels softening. I also used a plastic orange spudger trim tool to gently scrape and shift the softening brake dust in the corners that the wheel brush couldn't shift.I gave the wheels a rinse and they certainly looked better. They still had a lot of brake dust on them which I couldn't see under the mix of cleaner and brake dust sludge. So after the rinse, gave them another coating of the cleaner, left for a bit and then went at them again with the brush and spudger tool. After about 5 hours of cleaning, scrubbing, scraping, rinsing the wheels looked great. They still had a little bit of brake dust on the inner rims which I will tackle at a later date as the daylight was fading.I did go through quite a lot of the Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel Cleaner, probably 3/4 of the bottle but Im hoping now with the heavy stuff removed I can use the rest sparingly. The smell of the Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel Cleaner is quite a strong fruity fragrance which is quite pleasant but does hang around. For days and days I could smell this mixed in with a metallic brake dust smell.Overall I am mightily impressed with the Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel Cleaner. As long as you are prepared to spend a lot of time and elbow grease the cleaner does give good results.

Effective but stinks
Works well, some areas need a bit of work. Can't believe a thiol like this is on the market-stinks to high heaven.Seems expensive but you don't need much so a bottle should last.

Exceptional
The media could not be loaded. Well, colour me impressed! I bought this after a google search for “best alloy wheel cleaner”, many people both professionals and hobbyists seem to rate this product, I was sceptical of their experience as it all seemed too good to be true, “spray, dwell, rinse”, I have never used a product that didn’t require cuticle busting scrubbing between the spokes so expected this to be more of the same, I sprayed it on and found the spray trigger easy to apply without any leakage onto fingers, I let it dwell and brushed it just to agitate the dirt as I had lots of baked on brake dust, the product turned purple as it broke down the iron which is always handy to get a clear view of any missed spots, it thickened on more soiled wheels and sprayed off really easily with a normal hose pipe. Standard silver alloys don’t need much else after this however gloss black alloys benefit from a final sponge clean to avoid visible streaks. It left both types of alloys, even extremely soiled alloys looking exceptional. This is the best product I have used and works miles better than anything else I have used previously. Well worth the cost!

Best I’ve ever used
I’ve used quite a few cleaners in the past and this is by far the best. Spray on, it goes a purple colour as it’s cleans then pressure wash. Great result

Very good.
Bought this over another well known brand (Meguiars) because it was cheaper for a one litre bottle than theirs was for 750ml. I'd read good reviews of both but this seemed to have better reviews and was better value. It was really easy to use. I probably didn't need to agitate the product on the wheels but I did anyway with a soft brush (I've had to use a stiff brush previously with other products) and rinsed off after less than 2 minutes. Great result...all brake residue, grease and other crap has gone. Under 15 minutes for 4 wheels including application and rinsing off. I rinsed off with a watering can which worked fine but as the product had started to dry slightly I'd have been better off with a hose or pressure washer which is what I'll do next time. Only downside is that I can now see all the tar spots on the rims which had been hidden by the brake residue....now I need to ransack my garage to find the tar spot remover! The smell of this type to product seems to be an issue for some buyers...some smell of rotten eggs. This definitely has a chemical smell but seems to have some sort of fruit smell added which isn't unpleasant....dont get me wrong..I'd not want it in the house but using this outside is fine.Overall I'm very happy and a litre bottle will last me for ages.Note: if you have wheel stud caps remove them before using this product....it will discolour them....only takes a minute and will save time in the long run as you wont have to find the trim restorer to apply to them when they have turned milky white.!
