Serious Pencils for the Professional.
Absolutely love these Pencils,l have bought several makes of Coloured pencil in the last year or so and the quality can be very uneven, not so with Faber Castell. The quality of these well established German Pencils is amazing. The colour, brightness, brilliance, texture and comfort of use is astounding,a beautiful pencil that does not come cheap but the result is worth it,not once did l find a "breaker" ( you have a broken lead, you sharpen and it breaks again and again until the pencil disappears! ) l found this often with the cheaper made pencils but with Faber...Never. A Superior pencil that comes in a gorgeous green box case and is a real pleasure to draw with, 5 stars.

Beautiful pencils. Lovely quality item.
I've not used coloured pencils for many years so I'm no expert but I think I can recognise a quality item. They are very well made and finished, lovely to use and sharpen well. I bought the Faber Castell snap open triple sharpener which works perfectly with them. They sharpen to a good point and colour lays down well. I like that I can add to my set by buying single colours so that was a consideration when choosing this set. Really pleased with them. I suppose one thing that I do notice about them is that they have quite a strong pencil smell which is nostalgic but so strong. If you're sensitive to smells as I am, you might not like it. I'm hoping it will wear off with use.

A great pencil for both novices and professionals
I bought these a few months ago as a present to myself. I have always enjoyed colouring in, and the new wave of colouring books for adults has bought back a passion in me. I was really uncertain due to the price, but with some research felt these pencils would be the best for me. I tend to colour in hard, and like a fine point on my pencil for most colouring. These hold up brilliantly, and although I get the occasional breakage on a point, they are generally long lasting. No real issue with different sharpeners so far. The gift box these come in is great. I can quickly pack the pencils away when I am finished colouring and the magnetic latch stops any accidental spills. I accidentally spilled some acetone on the box whilst doing my nails, and although I lost some green colouring off the faux leather, the box still works and it protected the pencils. As some of the pencils shorten, I imagine it may become more difficult to get certain pencils out. The pencils themselves are wonderful. They don't smudge whilst colouring, and blend brilliantly. If you are a novice like myself to artist quality pencils, these are a great start.

Excellent pencils, so good we bought the full 120 ...
Excellent pencils, so good we bought the full 120 within a few days. Oil based cores that lay down pigment consistently in many layers, they can be blended dry easily, take a nice fine point especially when sharpened with a decent sharpener like the KUM long point. The cores are medium hard, harder than Primsacolor and Luminance, softer than Lyra Rembrandt and Tombow Irojetin. No flakes or dust. Pencil quality is exceptional, casings are high quality with a nice round barrel, consistent and functional, cores centred, zero breakages. This box of 36 has an adequate range for most common usage, and as they are easy to blend and layer additional values and tones can be achieved with relative ease. Highly recommended versatile coloured pencil.

Best I’ve used
Well the saying of you get what you pay for, you do with these! I’m not a professional as in sell my art, but I enjoy in my spare time now and again having a go, and I bought quite a few different brands just lately of colour pencils to try and get into doing realistic art rather than watercolour, and so far all have been poor quality- almost snapping the nip to get colour onto the paper! you don’t have to do that with these, they literally put colour on the paper! With a nice vivid colour and they blend really well. I wish I hadn’t wasted my money with the others I’m just going straight to these.. If you’re looking for colour pencils don’t waste your money in time buying any other type a professional told me to go with these and I strange with others, these are the ones.

Can layer it easily and mix colours seamlessly, perfect for details and the pencils themselves are very high quality with no breakages in the pencil led.

First of all let me start out by saying that although I am not a professional artist, I have several family members who are and I know the difference between top quality, artist quality art supplies and the, lack for a better word, cheap art supplies. I have fallen into the adult coloring world that is so popular now, but I have colored all my life. The only difference is where I used to buy kids coloring books and a huge box of Crayola Crayons, now I buy adult coloring books and colored pencils. Like a lot of other people, I started with Crayola colored pencils. Crayola makes the best "crayons" I thought well, they must make decent colored pencils. Well ignorance is bliss, so they say. I had always heard of the Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils and how amazing they were. So, after doing some research I broke down and bought the 48 pc set. Wow! I couldn't believe how buttery smooth they were! I thought nothing could get better than these babies! I was already familiar with several of the brand names, Prismacolor, Faber Castell, Derwent, but I never realized just how many brands of colored pencils were out there, all claiming to be soft, blendable, smooth color lay down, etc. So I began my research into all the different brands, read reviews on all the different brands, talked to my dad (the artist in the family) about all the different brands and learned a lot. I already had the Prismas, so I now I was dying to try the FC Polychromos. So I went to our local art supply stores which are either Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I didn't want to splurge on a huge set quite yet, so I found a 6pc set of the Polychromos, I didn't want to buy only one or two of the colors, so, after looking at the open stick, realized that I would save a couple of bucks if I bought the 6pc. When I got them home, and started to color with them, I fell instantly and utterly in love with them. Now I knew what all the ruckus about, these are absolutely and utterly, the best colored pencil ever! No breakage, no barrel cracks, even after sharpening them. So, I immediately ordered the 36 pc Studio Set in a box. I like the box instead of the tin, it seems sturdier somehow. I haven't picked up my Prismas in over a week, except to move the tin! I am now saving up for the 120 pc set, maybe my husband will get it for me for Christmas?! I will still use and love my Prismas along with my other less expensive but good quality brands. I love the Staedtler Triangular pencils (72 pc) and my Michael's brand (Artist Loft), but I will reach for my Poly's the most. You ask yourself, "can I justify paying that much for colored pencils"? YES! Start saving and when you can, SPLURGE! They are worth every penny, and what others are saying is 100% true. These are the best pencils ever! 5+ stars!!! UPDATE: I have since purchased the 120 pc set of Polychromos. I have found that I reach for these more than any other pencil. No breakage, no shrinkage from usage and the color lay down is amazing!

I have used Faber-Castell pencils for years. Mostly watercolor. I also have a couple of other sets from Faber-Castell. I know I can rely on the color and pigment of each pencil. I'm working on a new project which requires the polychromos set and I'm not at all disappointed. Plus, they arrived early! Very pleased.

Once my wife tried these pencils it cost me money. WHY? Because I had to purchase the 120 set as she was so impressed with them.
