I would definately recommend this whistle for refereeing as the players instantly stop once you've blown it, it's not easy to ignore! Overall a great whistle, and as it has no ball inside it, it cannot somehow get stuck. The pea design is not used in basketball and this whistle doesn't have one. It gives a clear, loud, high pitched tone that can be heard in the noisiest of basketball halls. We chose the plastic casing over the stainless as a safety precaution. We had heard of chipped/broken teeth being caused by the stainless one when a player ran into the ref.
