I want a viewfinder for old coloured slides with magnification x 3+ Is this recommended?

This device is designed to work with a light box [which I believe is available on Amazon] Place the colour transparency on the lightbox so that it is back illuminated and place the loupe over the slide. This gives a good view. For more general viewing you need to research the availability of hand held slide viewers which will transmit ambient light through the slide which is then viewed through an eyepiece.

Would you recommend this item for inspecting micro printing on documents and currency?

It has glass surround that lets natural light in and so if the subject to be viewed is visible enough, then it would be viewed fine by the magnifier
