Having never had a spare, there being the automatic parking brake mechanism in the spare wheel-well, the car was never supplied with the usual accoutrements for wheel changes. And being a member of a breakdown service, I never needed one. Until I recently bought new CMS Alloys. I bought them as the OEM ones on there were pretty bad from the previous owner. Of course, once upon a time, when one bought new alloys, they used to be accompanied by a note warning that as they do not use the OEM bolts they can, on occasion, come loose until they 'bed-in' to the new wheels. No more however.... As a result, I didn't want to spend a fortune, because I would only be using it in to check for a few weeks, in case the bolts began to work loose - which is a rarity anyway, but one never knows. I used it once a week, just to make sure the nuts were staying tight for the 1st month, and now it is there just in case. It is GoodYear branded, it's very strong and pretty weighty. It extends and locks itself, and just a little pressure will then enable it to collapse easily. Comes with two clever douvle-ended sockets that lock onto the bar, giving the full range of sizes. I can give it a pretty hefty force, and it seems not to bend under the strain. For £10 and free shipping, there is no reason not to have one of these in any car.

Good value / quality

Cheap and cheerful so no real complaints. Grip is comfortable and the telescopic shaft gives you some more leverage. Comes with a variety of sockets so there should be something suitable for most cars. One minor gripe is that the telescopic mechanism means that the socket can rotate. Hard to describe in words, but I'll try: ideally, you'd hold the wrench with the grip, present the socket to the wheel nut and away you go. Because the inner and outer parts of the telescopic shaft can freely rotate, if you attempt this one-handed, your socket will end up swiveling round to point at the floor. Like I say, not a big issue - just use two hands, or hold the wrench further down. Might make things more difficult than they need to be if you're not quite so flexible as you used to be. Still a massive improvement on the tiny thing they provide with the car, if indeed they give you one at all.

Really sturdy and strong even when extended. My wheel nuts were practically welded on and this got them off. Don’t buy anything else.
