Spanish Short Stories: Cuentos En Espanol (New Penguin Parallel Text Series)

A quite brilliant little book buy it's not for beginners. The format of the story in Spanish on one page and then in English on the opposite page is a great way to read Spanish but have a ready translation for the words you don't know. It is also a great way to pick up little colloquial phrases that really useful in conversational Spanish. Great value for money: I've bought several copies and given them as presents to friends who are learning the language.

Great book, only read the first story so far but very entertaining and great format, with translation on the opposite page. Only thing I would say is the book is not for complete beginners (in my opinion) as the Spanish is not always simple. Would recommend for anyone with at least 3-6 months Spanish completed. Learnt tons of new vocab from this. Def recommend

This is a good way for intermediate/advanced Spanish learners to practise! It has a variety of interesting/funny stories which can help you learn new words from all sorts of topics, and each story isn't too long, so one story can be read at a time with ease. It has helped me a lot to learn new vocabulary, however I have noticed a few strange translations, but that would be my only complaint.

This helped me in my Spanish learning. It contains quite a few short stories, translated in both English and Spanish. The beauty here is that whilst translating a word makes sense in part, presenting it in the context of a sentance or indeed a paragraph makes my understanding of the Spanish language far better. This is easy to read in both Spanish and in English and is suitable for intermediate students.

This book is great for anyone interested in improving their Spanish without feeling it's a chore. I really enjoyed the stories - written by well known authors including Isabel Allende and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The parallel text format makes the stories easy to read, without having to look up difficult words in the dictionary. The notes at the back of the book explain some colloquial expressions which is great for anyone interested in the culture of Spanish speaking countries. Highly recommended.

Good translations and interesting stories (so far). I'm at B1 level Spanish - and this is definitely a challenge. Probably more suited for B2 and beyond due to the vocabulary and more complex sentence structures, which you would expect of true Spanish literature rather than made-for-language-students. Overall I would recommend.

This is a fantastic book if you are trying to improve your written Spanish or your comprehension of the Spanish language as it has a parallel text in English, so that you can compare words, syntax and sentences. I was really impressed. It has a selection of stories in Spanish, translated into English. Great!!!

Se lo regalé a un amigo que está aprendiendo español y me cuenta que las historias son muy entretenidas, y le resulta muy útil aprender frases hechas que no tienen una traducción literal. Sirve tanto para el que quiera aprender español, como el que quiera aprender inglés, ya que cada página tiene su traducción en la siguiente. Así no se hace pesado esperar a buscar en un diccionario la traducción.

Die Geschichten sind eher langweilig und nicht einfach zu verstehen. Am störendsten ist, dass die Übersetzung sehr frei ist. Es ist nicht für Anfänger geeignet.

Acabei de receber o meu livro por isso ainda não li nada mas eu queria falar que ele é bem grossinho, geralmente livros de contos assim são bem finos, mas esse não. Além disso, a história é contada de um lado em espanhol e do outro lado em inglês, o que eu não fazia ideia até ter ele em mãos. O livro veio certinho e tem 10 contos no total!
