Great 2-line system for home or business use
There are already some excellent reviews of this system, so I will just comment on things that played into our decision to buy this unit. Paramount for us was sound quality, and these units have excellent sound. My husband has difficulty hearing, and he loves this phone system. Secondly, we needed a lot of extensions, because our house is large and we were continually running from room to room to answer the phone. Thirdly, we wanted an intercom for the same reason -- to stop ourselves from running from room to room to ask someone a quick question. Some reviewers commented that the phones have numbers rather than names, and so the intercom is not that helpful. We used a simple technique to overcome this, we created a list of the phone numbers (1-12) and their corresponding locations. We then printed the lists and taped one list to the back of each handset. We also taped an identifying number for each handset to the back. This has helped us use the intercom, and also helps us to get stray handset back to where they belong. Lastly, we wanted a handset with a headset jack for times when we are on the phone for extended periods. The right headset can also improve the audio experience for someone who is hard of hearing. Unlike many systems on the market, these phones have headset jacks! They combine well with the Plantronics HW261N Binaural Headset. This headset has a quick disconnect feature that allows you to combine it with different cables to connect to different types of phones. For the phone in this AT&T system, you need Plalntronics 43038-01 Cable - Quick Disconnect To 2.5 Mm Plug. I was a bit worried that the answering machine time would not be sufficient, but this has not been a problem. We love the global directory of phone numbers. It's perfect for home users. My only criticism would be that the manual for using the system could be better. Expect to do some experimentation with the phone to get the hang of using it.

Cordless 2 line phone
We love this phone system, which replaced one which was fairly new but had less than adequate volume. Our hearing is declining slowly as we age, however the other system was not satisfactory for sound. Even using the speaker function we almost had to strain to hear, so the AT&T we bought is head and shoulders above the one we replaced. It was easy to install, and the answering machine part is easy to access and has clear directions for use. We also purchased two additional handsets to use in our home office, one at my desk, one at my husband's desk. The base set is in our kitchen. All work very well. The handsets are reviewed separately.

Good, but a couple issues
I've had this phone for a month now, and so far, the phone itself has performed well...but I'm still trying to figure out a couple things : - Not sure if there's a way to turn down the volume on the console menu buttons, which I find a little annoying, especially when I have several numbers to enter into the address book. - Unable to turn the sound off on the answering system. I can turn the ringer off on both lines, but the message still plays when calls come through. Have tried using the Volume button during an incoming call, with no effect. - Unaware of a way to retrieve a number from the phone book without having to scroll through the entire thing. There isn't a search feature, which is frustrating with a lot of entries. If I need a number, I typically find it by using my iPhone contact list or my Panasonic cordless, which has a search option. Also, the battery life on the handset is terrible. I let it charge for almost two days when I first got it, then let it run out completely to "train" the battery. Not sure if this is still necessary, but it's a habit. Anyway, the phone off the base only lasts about two days, even with very little use. None of these things is enough to make me want to return it, but I don't think I'd buy this model again if it needed replacement.

A capable system, though still lacking in options
Our small office recently upgraded from an older AT&T phone system ( AT&T TL76108 5.8GHz Two-Line Digital Corded/Cordless Answering System - Titanium and Metallic Charcoal ) to this newer model (TL88102). We also ordered 4 additional handsets (TL88002). My evaluation of pros and cons is based on a comparison with the older AT&T system. PROS: - Very clear sound quality and excellent range using DECT 6.0 technology. - Slim and lighter design; the phone feels more like a "bar" than a "brick" in your hand. Also, no dorky-looking antenna. - At first appearance, the phone looks like it is not capable of standing upright on its own; however, it can. (Useful for hands-free use on speaker.) - Allows the ability to insert a "1" before a number from the caller ID list. FINALLY, we can actually use the CID log to return calls versus having to enter the entire number over again because it would omit the "1". - Supports up to 12 handsets (versus 8 on the older system, though our office has never used more than 6). - I like the option for intercom communication between handsets, though we'd never use it in our small office. - Syncing information (date/time, directory) between phones is effortless - change it on one phone, and it is sent to the others instantly. - Has an option to set the home area code. - Menus and options continue to be very basic, making it straightforward to set up or change. - I prefer the white LCD and blue key backlighting to the orange of our old phones. - EDIT: Contrary to the details on this page, the phone system DOES have support for 10 speed dial numbers from the phone's directory. CONS: - Loses the ability to rename a handset. The older system allowed text input to give a custom name to each handset. We used this to name each handset after the person who typically used the phone at that workstation. Now it can only name each handset as "Handset 1", "Handset 2", etc., in the order in which you register handsets with the base. - The phone sits loosely in its base. Every time I place it back in the base, I'm not always sure it's sitting in there properly. It can be easily knocked over and out of the base. - The readability of the LCD text (on handsets) seems reduced; I'm not sure if it's because it is smaller or using a different type of font, but it certainly feels more cluttered. - The red charge light sits between the two function buttons below the LCD screen and seems a bit too prominent for my tastes. A trifle, but still worth noting. - The handset cannot be used while sitting in the charging base. (This is no change from the older system.) Also, placing it in the base while on a call will automatically hang up. - The icon display for line 1/line 2 at the top is slightly different and harder to see. - EDIT: Some newer phone models come with a number blacklisting feature that we could really use but, sadly, this model is without. Summary: Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase. I would have liked to see more options available in a modern phone system, but it is remarkably rare to find from any company. We considered moving to VoIP phones, but that would have been affected by and taken from our bandwidth, which is somewhat limited. This phone system does what it should, and does it well. It's a definite step up from our outdated phone system.

Does as advertised - good instruction booklet instead of having to go online for a download. Nice and light.
