After scraping off a strip of the black coating (either natural oxide or applied) these rods create a perfectly adequate plume of hot bright sparks with ease. Ignition of suitable tinder couldn't be easier. Nice and chunky (8mm x 80mm) so 10 should last the rest of my life! I've tried scraping them with various sharp things, and had no surprising failures. A shard of flint (stone) or broken bottle (glass) will do the trick nicely if you lose your knife (use the 90deg spine to save messing up your blade edge). Remember that it's the sharpness and hardness of the scraper/striker that matters, not what it's made of! Can be drilled *** BUT *** only very, very slowly. If you drill through this stuff (at your own risk), be aware that the resulting swarf will of course ignite easily and violently! Best done far away from flammable things.

For the money these are fantastic. Whilst they might not give quite as good sparks as some of the "off the shelf" items, they work and work well. I buy these to use with student groups so that they can make their own unique handes for them and learn to light fire from a spark. They do have a protective layer on the outside which hinders performance a bit the first few times but this quickly wears off. The striker does need to be quite hard - for the students I use a short length of hacksaw blade (the toothed side) but for my own I use a piece of HSS tool steel or the back of decent knife.

This product came a day early. Very impressed as I thought they would give off little spark. I was wrong they are going to be perfect for my bushcraft fire lighting teaching as they give off a decent amount of sparks with little effort. I will be attaching handles on and have used flint as a striker. Cost was very cheap but will do the job very well. I will be buying more. Very impressed

EXCELLENT ITEM

They could be a nice bargain pack of ferro-cerium rods as they are big (which is good). They easily produce sparks, but I found that they still don't work as well as a Quechua ferro rod bought at Decathlon (used on the same tinder). I think they might either: - not make enough sparks - make sparks which are not hot enough

Am very happy with the purchase. It does require quite a lot of pressure and a bit of practice, but once you've figured it out it really creates a good amount of sparks. It works better than the flint on my Mg fire starter. Good value for money in my opinion as these will last me a very, very long time (despite playing around with it all the time...)

Does what it’s made for , some little adjustments and looks great with deer antlers.

Muy bien. Como esta anunciado. Tamaño perfecto, lo suficientemente grande para ser utilizado muchas veces y lo suficientemente pequeño para llevar al campo sin ocupar mucho espacio. Mucha cantidad para distribuir por todos los sitios y pate para ofrecer. Buenas chispas.

Sono i più economici quantità/prezzo, le misure sono quelle descritte, forse qualche cm in più farebbe comodo, funzionano

Preis ist ok und im Vergleich zu den ganzen überteuerten "Bushcraft-Outdoor-Hype" Produkten ohnehin unschlagbar. Lieferung war vorbildlich und schnell (PRIME). Funktioniert einwandfrei mit all meinen Messern, die ich zu unterschiedlichen Gelegenheiten draußen dabei habe auch mit meiner Rosenschere von Felco oder meinem Bundeswehr Essbesteck. Nur mit KLingen deren Rücken völlig abgegrated und abgerundet wurden, natürlich nicht. Es lässt sich mit Leichtigkeit ein wenig Material abtragen, dass dann zum Beispiel gesammelt auf einem Papiertaschentuch oder aufgerupften Wattepad einen hervorragenden Zunder bildet sodass die Oberfläche schnell Feuer fängt. Einen Griff brauche ich nicht unbedingt, werde aber eine kleine Fangschlaufe anbringen ähnlich wie bei einem Angelhaken, um die Stangen irgendwo (Schlüsselbund, Karabiner, Molle oder D-Ring) befestigen zu können. Gutes Produkt für Leute die wissen was man damit machen kann. Meine Empfehlung für alle die gerne draußen sind und auf eine zuverlässige Feuerquelle angewiesen sind.
