Kenley YDK Motor for Dyson DC05/ DC08/ DC11/ DC19/ DC20/ DC21/ DC29 Vacuum Cleaner Series, 240 V

Our Dyson DC08 Allergy vacuum packed up with a burning smell a few weeks ago - A new one would cost over £200, so I decided to investigate how easy a self-repair would be. A couple of youtube videos indicate that it is pretty simple - no soldering required, you just need a torx (star head) screwdriver to remove the six screws securing the motor compartment (or a long hex key/ allen key will do as well). I was going to order a genuine dyson motor at ~£45, but I figured a YDK motor is a YDK motor whether supplied by Dyson or not and took a chance with this great value one (free postage too) - it looks almost identical to the one I removed (one minor difference is the original one has green plastic fuse casing rather than the yellow one here), and it performs just great (especially after cleaning the dyson and replacing the two filters (~£7 Qualtex brand, again, not original Dyson) - no difference in noise level (still just as noisy as the original!). So a pretty much new DC08 for ~£25, you'd be mad to pay for a whole new vacuum. Have to say though, that having taken it apart I'm not convinced there's £200 worth of product here - Dyson must make a big profit on these machines. They do perform well, but £100 would be a more reasonable price methinks.

Dangerous downside it is the missing thermal cut out for safety. Which can be swapped from original if competent. After prolonged use the motor overheats (cleaning more than two rooms one after the other ) and this is dangerousas it comes with no thermal cutout as standard. Not as good as dyson original.

Fitted perfectly and easily to my DC21. Now the beast is alive. Good quality motor, has been running for a couple of hours and so far no smoke has come out, which is a good sign. This is a fairly simple swap over, and can take less than 30mins. Google for some youtube videos, there is one for a DC08 which is the same as other models. I would also recommend cleaning or replacing filters at the same time and if you are really into it take the canister apart completely and give it a wash. It makes it run like new. You'll be surprised at how much dirt is clogged in there contrary to what Dyson says that it doesn't clog. It is only true if you follow Dyson's instructions to clean filters regularly and do not fill above the max mark. Plaster/Drywall dust is a Dyson killer, so if you have used it for vacuuming up your renovation remains then make sure you clean the filters each time. But if you are a man and have ignored all the instructions this is what you will need! Cheers.

No issues wires the right length fitted and working in no time at all - recommend without reservation one for one swap, noise about the same no vibration. Good value.

Perfect and so easy to replace

Direct replacement motor in a Dyson dc05. Straightforward to fit and works well, giving a new lease of life to the DC 05.

Moteur qui se monte très facilement en remplacement de celui d'origine. Rien à redire, il fait le travail sans aucune différence notable à l'utilisation avec celui d'origine.

Preso per sostituire il motore originale bruciato, fa il suo lavoro e non è stato complicato sostituirlo. Consegnato imballato in modo più che buono.

Habe ihn als Ersatz für meinen alten Panasonic gekauft, da ich ne günstige Alternative gesucht habe (Orginal kaum noch zu bekommen und dann weit über 100 Euro) ihn wieder zum Laufen zu bringen. Er ist etwas kleiner als das Original, gut wurde ja auch nicht für diesen Sauger gebaut. Aber bisschen Moosgummi, Klebeband und Crimpen, dann passt er. Ganz nach dem Motto, was nicht passt wird passend gemacht. Er läuft super deutlich zu hören was mich npersönlich nicht stört. Hat ja auch mehr Power obwohl kleiner.

Nach 9 Jahren hat der Originalmotor meines Dyson DC08 den Geist aufgegeben und ich habe mir diesen hier als Austauschmotor gekauft. Funktioniert fabelhaft und der Motortausch ist wirklich kinderleicht, da muss man kein Fachmann für sein (Ich musste mir lediglich noch einen passenden Torx-Schraubenzieher kaufen). Ich bin gespannt, wie lange der Motor hier durchhält. Bisher funktioniert er einwandfrei und der Sound ist auch der gleiche.
