What is the maximum length reed that this case can hold? Some of my bass sax reeds are up to 9.5cm long.

Hello John, my biggest sax is a tenor so I have measured the depth of the compartment. It measures 9.5 cms but that is with the tip of the reed against the edge of the tray. I have pushed one of my old reeds right to the edge as if it were 9.5 cms long and the case closes without damaging the reed. The case on the whole is very good and I can't fault it.Hope this helps. does one open the packet envelope ??

The Reed Vitalizer comes in a White outer envelope with a Black band and White writing at the top. There is a notch to one side for easy tearing. Inside is what appears to be a Brown paper envelope or pouch with a light Blue B and arrow motif on. You do not tear that open, but slip it into the slots in the reed case. I find it is easier to slide under one side and bend slightly to slip under the opposite side. Good luck. They work very well and really extend the life of Saxophone Reeds.

Wondering about getting one of these. I have a concern about whether they provide an environment for bacteria to grow. Anyu thoughts or experiences?

Mold spores can be found on any surface you care to mention and will grow given the right conditions, so cleaning the case once in a while with either a spray or detergent will keep the reeds mold free. I also clean my reeds once in a while with an old toothbrush and a weak solution of hydrogen peroxide. I've used 2 of these cases for a while now without any major problems and recommend it.
