The Best Grinder At Its Price Point
It is an excellent coffee grinder, especially for the price. It is so easy to use and perfectly engineered, as you would expect from a German company. It has two easy dials for amount of cups you want to grind and you can set the other dial from extremely coarse to ultra fine. Although, I wouldn't say it is the most accurate and can struggle a little to provide a truly coarse ground. It is important to brush it out regularly, so you aren't basically getting a build-up of old granules etc. That keeps it fresher. The honest verdict: is it the best grinder in the world? No. However, at its price point, it is exceptional. My one is 6+ years old and still going. If you are fairly new to home brewing and grinding yourself, there is no better entry to it than this. I'm moving on to a slightly higher grade one now. But make no mistake, Kreps make quality things and this is no exception. It's a hearty recommendation from me.

One of the Best Burr Grinders
We have bought 3 of these in the past, not because they needed replacement, but rather because it is so efficient. One for home, one for the office and one as a gift. We are big coffee drinkers and this grinder is so reliable and variable settings it’s perfect for Espresso machines, Filtered coffee, pour over & French Press. It doesn’t mind grinding beans that are any roast, caramelised or oily, perfect every time. It isn’t difficult to clean and doesn’t make a mess on the counter. Over 20 years use & I highly recommend

Good for the price with a few caveats
My old blade grinder packed up shortly after the start of the 2020 coronavirus lockdown in the UK which was a problem for this coffee addict (yeah I know, first world problems) so I bought this for £39. I've been using it for almost three months - what's it been like? The good The price. Can't argue with that. Consistency of the grind - no lumps or shards (unlike my old blade grinder), just evenly-ground coffee every time. Appearance. It's small and reasonably attractive, it isn't going to dominate your kitchen. Safety - it won't start if either the grinder bin lid or ground coffee collection container isn't securely in place. Reliability - looks solid so far. I've only had it 2.5 months, but I use it 2-4 times per day. The bad While it does have some adjustability, on even the coarsest grind it's still too fine for use in a French Press (which is how I make coffee). You can still make the coffee, but if you don't let the grounds settle and decant carefully when pouring you'll end up with a fine sludge at the bottom of your cup. Yuck. Noise. Not a biggie as I don't grind coffee at 3AM, but it sounds like it's about to take off, especially as it speeds up at the end of the grind (when presumably it's already ground must of the coffee and is working against less resistance). The collection container has a couple of issues. Firstly, it's not designed for pouring out the coffee after the grind. It has no spout, meaning it's impossible to pour the grounds without at least some missing the target and landing on your kitchen worksurface. Secondly, not all of the grounds settle at the bottom of the container, quite a lot adheres to its sides (static?) This means you have to use the little brush provided to brush the grounds from the sides into the base of the container before pouring, otherwise it ends up everywhere when you pour out the ground coffee. Overall, can't fault it for the money, but there are a few caveats.

Great coffee grinder. Love it.
This is a great little grinder. I especially like that once you switch it on you can go and get on with other things while it grinds. Our old grinder meant you had to stay with it with your hand on the button until it finished grinding. It is only seconds but it really feels as if it makes a difference. There are lots of volume and grind fineness settings so it is easy to get just the amount of coffee you want, ground just how you want. On the down side, the coffee is collected in a see through box that has a lid but also has a sort of hole at the back. I always manage to lose some coffee through this hole when taking the box out to tip the coffee into my machine so I always have to wipe up coffee when using this grinder. It is only a small thing but it is annoying as it wastes the seconds I gained by not having to stay with the machine when it is grinding! The grinder is good looking and compact so even if you have it out on show it would look ok. It might be good to have a larger store for beans but then you would have a larger machine so perhaps it is OK to have to fill it each time you grind some coffee. Overall, very happy with this grinder.

Excellent coffee grinder inc for cafetière/french press
I've had this Krups coffee grinder for 10 weeks now and I'm still completely delighted with it. It's very easy to use, pretty quiet and looks ace on the work top. It feels like a solid machine. I even like the dinky little brush that comes with it! On top of that it is also great value for money. As the manual says you need to ensure that the top hopper cover is on properly and the collection box with its cover are in place otherwise the safety switch prevents operation. I think one reviewer here said it didn't grind coarse enough for a cafetière/french press. I can confirm it's absolutely right for me and there's still a bit of room on the setting knob for coarser still. I get no sludge whatsoever at the bottom of the cup. I've only had a hand grinder before and that was many years ago. Electric is so much less faff and I hadn't realised you get a pretty standard measured amount for your chosen setting and therefore a consistent cup! I used to use supermarket ready ground coffee which was never great in the first place but I found the quality was going down, especially with the vacuum packaging being inadequate. I now source beans from a small premium independant supplier and really look forward to my mid morning coffee.

Just buying a second one
January 2013 update With regret I am down-grading my rating to one star. The grinder is extremely good but it has a major design flaw, the button. I had to junk the first one because this broke so we have been careful with it. However the button on the new one has now broken so we are back to using a chop stick to start the grinder. Krups should have taken note of the comments about this fault and strengthened the button. Are you listening Krups? probably not Original review I have used one of these for five years and it has ground a great amount of coffee. On the finest setting it is perfect for an espresso machine or pot. It will reliably grind any grade up to that for a cafetierre. It is very easy to use. All of that is why I am now buying another to replace the one that has just died. Two hints. First, clean it more often than I did. Mine might still be going strong if I had. Secondly, don't push hard on the start button as it will break. It is the one weak point of this machine. Mine broke and I had to start it using a chop stick to push the microswitch on the circuit board. Both the hopper and the top have to be fully pushed in for the machine to start. If either isn't in place it is tempting to push harder on the button. DON'T! Later additions: When I was about to take the old one to the dump I decided to find out how to take it apart. The outer case is held by two projections on the brown outer case. These are at the bottom, about midway back on the sides. Two thin knife blades pushed in should release it so it can be slid up. I had already 'persuaded' it to come apart so didn't get a chance to try. When I found the switch it was held in place, on one side only, by a very thin bit of springy plastic. No wonder it breaks so easily. I imagine it would be possible to buy a spare. My problem was being unable to open the case. Another hint. I have already mentioned not pushing hard on the button. I have discovered a reason why the grinder doesn't start sometimes. If fragments of bean fall into the groove into which the top fits, they can prevent the top going in far enough to push down the microswitch. The fix is simply to turn the thing upside down and bang it to get the bits out. Any that are jammed can be prised out with the end of a pointed wooden stick. Take care not to break the microswitch.

Does the job, nice enough to use, minces up the coffee beans.
Looks the part, does the job, so far so good. We use a bean to cup machine but that always has decaf beans in so we use this to grind the proper stuff when we want a caffeine kick. The grinders are metal, I think I would prefer ceramic but it works OK. The hopper holds quite a lot, maybe 60g of beans. The mincer won't work unless the lid is on so you shouldn't be able to mince your fingers accidentally. Or on purpose. There are 2 knobs. The one on the side sets the fineness of the grind. The one on the front sets the number of cups-worth you want ground. I leave that set to 2, which produces enough for about 3 cups for me. There's a button to set the mincers in motion. Other reviews suggest that this button can break this so I press it sympathetically. Fingers crossed. When the grind is happening you can watch it being fired into the transparent bin. The designer has clearly thought about this. Happy with this purchase.

Beware fragile on/off switch and short mains lead
This is an excellent coffee grinder but for a design fault. As many others have noted, the on/off switch is mounted on flimsy plastic which is prone to breaking. In my case, this happened after 4 years 5 months of almost daily use. As I haven't seen a better model and the price is unchanged I have just repurchased it. However the new grinder has a ridiculously short mains lead (67cm), requiring me to reorganise my worktop. The old model had a 120cm lead. It's not possible to change the lead. Why has the manufacturer done this? You can buy a new switch on Amazon for £12.49. There's a YouTube video showing how to dismantle the machine and fit it, but it's a fiddly job.
