G-Shock Men's Watch AWG

Would have gave it five stars but came home today and it’s gained an hour. Had to go through and set it manually and then switch to auto mode. Thought is was meant to be radio conrolled. Rant over the watch is beautiful and the dark blue bezel is subtle. Not sure if it will withstand a pounding if you were gonna wear it as a work watch as the paint will probably come off. The rest of the watch will last. Nice sized watch and not to tall on the wrist. Can be worn with a shirt or t shirt. Not as hardcore as the bigger G shocks. I bought this for just that purpose. I have a GD100 for work, a bezel less DW6800 from the mid nineties that suffered bezel rot and a 2000 G2400 from Germany with some funky digit display. It comes fully charged and at the right time. Just leave it in daylight when you are not wearing to top it up, will have to keep my eye on the time keep adjusting itself as it could become irritating. Good lumen on the digits and an orangey backlight which is adjustable. A lot of people moan about the reverse lcd displays and I agree, they are all pants. I had an olive GR7900 with reverse display. A lovely watch but sold it because I could not see it in poor light. Left bezel did show date, but now time and don’t know how to get it back, middle is seconds and power bar at the bottom segment with low/med and high. The day is on the right. Don’t care for any of them to be honest, which is why I went for the reverse display. If these are important to you then go for the silver outer bezel with the navy face. Lovely watch with a few niggles that I will have to get my head around, hence only 4 stars. Update as of tonight, I have read the manual online for the module as couldn’t be bothered with the inch thick version and have set the watch up properly and now all is good so I have changed the watch back to five stars

I was worried this watch was going to be a bit bulky as the G-shocks allways interested me but most models seemed too chunky for my taste. This one is a bit bigger then regular casio watches but not overly so. I see that some people commented that the little led light did not light up the smaller digital dials. Well, for starters, the white hands on the black face keep the watch very readable in dim light. I'd only needed to use the led in total darkness and the fact that you can't read what day or date it is does not bother me one bit. If I NEED to see what day/date it is in absolute darkness i'm probably not in a state to even read a watch anyway ;-) Also worth noting that my watch arrived with only 'M' charge and took a few hours of summer sun to get to 'H'. I leave it on the windowsill overnight to let it get an hour of sun every morning and it has not dipped to 'M' since. (manual states 7months on a full charge without any proper light... we'll see :)) The multi band 6 is absolutely fantastic. This is a feature I will not be able to miss on a watch from now on. setting DST on my old ana/digi Casio was a pain! Set it once and never touch the hands ever again, how it should be! The ruggedness of the G-shock range is something i will need to experience for myself. From what I read I trust I made a good choice durability wise. There is really nothing negative to say other then the small digital dials are sometimes difficult to read as they are quite small and negative. Other than that I still really recommend this watch. Also, great price amazon. This watch was at least 40€ more expensive where I live (at the current exchange rate) and it got here 1 day before the estimated arrival date. Great service.

I spent a lot of time looking for something robust, waterproof and inexpensive to use whilst I am out fishing, mainly in the boat. Nothing too flash needed, I just want something that'll tell me what time it is and survive getting wet, plus the odd knock... I was tempted by a Luminox as I really like the look of the Navy Seal (not so sure they would wear these watches?!) black/white colormark verions, but after seeing so many negative reviews, started to be drawn towards a G Shock. My only problem was the size of them, as I don't have huge wrists, a big watch would look out of place on me. Then I came across this G Shock - at first I didn't even notice the price, as I wasn't being driven by cost... anyway, it's just perfect, not too big, not too small. Very comfortable to wear and looks great in all black with silver dials. I own a TAG and an Omega; this G Shock is 1/20th the price I paid for my Seamaster, yet it does pretty much the same job! My only gripe would be the dreadful instructions, resolved by going online and watching a tutorial on YouTube. The three small displays, I can barely see them, but I knew that would be the case from reading other reviews and I only want to know the time anyway. A few folk are moaning the light function is useless, I beg to differ, as it does illuminate the face of the watch in the dark long enough to see the watch hands, albeit you'll need very good eyesight to see anything else on the watch face. If you're after something a bit smaller than the average G Shock that's robust, functional and discreet, without spending much money, this is a very good watch. Highly recommended!

SMALL/MEDIUM WRISTS - BUY THIS WATCH! This watch was delivered to me an hour ago. I'm normally a bit lazy with reviews but I'm that impressed I need to give a quick review right away. This watch has a lot of reviews, so I'll stick to some specifics which I either disagree with or I feel are missing in other reviews. I've read a few negative reviews on the LED light so tested this right away by locking myself under the stairs. I'm really impressed! Yes it isn't an EL light, and yes it doesn't light up the digital dials, but its very effective at lighting the face, and as it throws from the bottom it gives a really cool shadow effect on the face. Down to taste, but I love it. Those digital dials: complaints about readability - not from me. Perfectly clear and readable in a relatively normal range of light. Some reviews say its difficult to set, and the manual is difficult to understand. I'd set all the time and automatic features I want to use within 15 minutes of opening the box. Finally for those that care, Japanese mechanicals, cased in China. Feels quality. I'll report back with more info once I've owned the watch for a while, but that last thing I want to leave this review with is that the watch is a seriously classy and understated G-shock, that I can wear for anything from out on my bike, running with the dog, to work in the office or on a night out. I'd only just about not wear it for a black tie event!

Love it; it's a smart but casual watch that I bought for day-to-day use (including sport) so I'm not risking damage to my Tag Heuer, and it fits the bill - and my wrist - perfectly. Having relatively small wrists I'm conscious not to look like I'm wearing a clock on my arm, and I'm pleased to find this is chunky without being ridiculously large. I was wondering how solar powered would get on in cloudy Manchester but thankfully no issue! The radio signal automatically updates the watch so it's always bang on atomic time. I don't use the other features/modes so much as I tend to use my smartphone these days for timer, alarms, and stopwatch - but it's good to know they're there if I need them. The World Time mode however is a really cool and useful mode, and as well as having WT displayed digitally while the analog shows home time, you can also swap them by pressing the top two buttons simultaneously. The minor downside is low light visibility. The inverted LCD displays (i.e. white on black) are not the easiest to read anyway; and pretty much impossible to read in low light. The white analogue hands can be seen quite well in low light but in the dark, the luminescent paint is limited to the tips of the hands (and fades very quickly). There is an LED which lights up from the bottom enough to see the analog hands but not the LCD (and it is not backlit). The Light is an amber colour (much like last-generation streetlamps). All in all, I love the watch and I've no complaints; it would only lose half a star (reluctantly) because the light could feasibly be better. It's perfect for my needs and it's a pleasure to have a Casio again after all these years.

Don't buy this watch if you wear glasses or if you want to use any of the functions in anything but perfect lighting conditions. Even the suposedly luminous fingers cannot be seen in the dark. Its a smart and good looking watch, but I couldn't even see the functions to set them up. I had to tilt the face to see the functions in bright lighting conditions, but with the least shade they were ilegible. I can read most small print on goods I buy and rarely have to wear my reading glasses, so it is not simply down to my eye sight. The instruction manual is useless and keeps on diverting you several pages in front or behind when trying to set up the functions, and again you need a microscope to read the writing, also the instructions covered several models and on several occasions I had to 'read between the lines' when attempting to set up the most basic of functions. I'm not stupid and train people on CNC engineering machines as my occupation, which involves developing my own training manuals. The pictures show the funtions as legible but in reality you may as well just use this watch as a simple analogue watch, as the light only iluminates the fingers (not even the numbers). Never even got round to trying the watch on my wrist. What also bugs me is the fact that I am now being charged £6.01 by Amazon if I return it through their printable service! Have already seen 2 digital models of interest MTG-930DU-8VER & GW-M850-1ER from Watch Shop with free next day delivery,which works out cheaper than Amazon with much faster delivery, so will go there next!

I decided to opt for the black/grey variant of this watch with the negative LCDs in the 3 dials. From the pictures online, I thought that this particular version looked the most stylish and subtle and I do prefer negative displays on digital watches. Despite the title, I'm going to give what I consider to be the plus and minus points for this watch as follows: Plus: Very sleek. The watch face isn't oversized and looks very discreet and subtle. Feels very light and comfortable on the wrist. Analalogue clock hands look good and very readable. Solar power and RC auto updates are 2 big plusses for me. My firt G-Shock which I bought for the ruggedness and dependability. It's obvious by the feel and look of it that this is made to last. I've also managed to break my last 2 watches and shatter the glas faces quite easily. The pins on my last 2 watches (both by different makers) managed to break far too easily as well so the strap detached. You can see on this G-Shock instantly that that is extremely unlikely. Now for negatives.... The huge thing that let this watch down massively for me and made me deduct 2 whole stars is the very poor readability of the negative LCDs on the 3 dials unless in optimal light conditions. Please bear in mind that my eyesight is currently very good so if you're visually impaired or struggle with distinguishing subtle contrast etc., I wish you the best of luck. A regular black digits on white LCD would alleviate this to some extent but I do prefer the negative and far more subtle LCDs in in general. What would have been a massive help is the feature of a backlight which illuminates each dial individually; this watch doesn't feature such a thing. Instead you get a weak amber light at the bottom which is only adequate for enabling you to read the analogue time in the dark. This is a massive hit for me. It effectively reduces the overall functionality of the watch considerably to the point where the dials are virtually dedundant. Unfortunately I can't really return the watch as I've it and already opened it and worn unless somebody can officially confirm otherwise. I found a slightly different and updated model which DOES feature what appears to be a very clear and functional backlight: GAW-100B-1AER. This came out in 2017. The face however, is a bit bigger which some may not be too keen on. In hindsight, I would have opted for this model instead and now I'm kicking myself.

The battery on my old watch expired, again. The shop reckoned it'll be £200 to replace, as it needed a full service. Ridiculous, said I. I could buy a new watch for half that price. So, with challenge laid down, I surfed Amazon and purchased the G Shock. Pros: - Dispatch and delivery was nearly simultaneous. I have no idea how Amazin do it so fast (witchcraft?); - packaging excellent, and massively detailed instructions, which are also available as a PDF from company website; - despite being in package (and therefore devoid of sunlight), the watch still had medium battery power remaining and set-up and auto-time adjustment was quick and painfree (basically, leave it on windowsill over night, and hey presto, it's set to the correct time; Simples); - with a month of minimal sunlight (short grey days), it hasn't dipped below medium battery power and, after one hour outside, it even tipped briefly into "high". Remarkable bit of kit, really! Cons: - small dials can be difficult to read in low light. But, hey, I can normally remember what day of the week it is anyway! - the mm/dd configuration is annoying (with seemingly no way to adjust it to dd/mm), but you do get used to it.
