Making Peg Dolls (New Edit): Over 60 Fun and Creative Projects for Children and Adults (Crafts and Family Activities)

When I found Margaret's US blog and then saw her new book was to be published in the UK I was very excited and purchased it as soon as it came out. Its full of so many sweet ideas for decorating little wooden peg people - after an opening chapter on the basics its divided into projects for the four seasons with a final chapter on fairy tale ideas. Wouldn't it be lovely to act out a fairy tale with little people while reading the story to small children. In the UK we think of peg dolls as those little dollies made from old fashioned clothespegs and although there are none of those in the book, all the designs could easily be transferred onto dolly pegs with a bit of ingenuity. Although I haven't been able to find all the shapes and sizes of wooden pegs in Margaret's arsenal I found the basic design quite easily by googling. I think the idea is to make the dolls with your children or grandchildren - but my son is grown up and I don't have any little people in my family - but it would be lovely to have a peg people afternoon at the kitchen table or even a party with the children taking them home instead of a party bag. But if you don't have any little people in your life either they make pretty seasonal decorations for your home. Full of lovely photographs and diagrams for each little person and with almost 200 pages and 27 designs to start you off, this book is definitely worth adding to your craft library.

This book is really good. I had seen the peg dolls in shops and just needed few ideas to get started I have made the nativity and the witches and I now have the confidence to try my own ideas out Certainly something different to do in lockdown

The book is beautifully illustrated with very simple instructions on how to create cute characters. Lots of lovely ideas for me to use and create lovely small world activities.

Je craignais d'y trouver des projets déjà proposés dans l'autre livre de l'auteure,splendide également,(Making Peg Dolls & More: Toys That Spin, Fly and Bring Sweet Dreams ),mais non,toutes les créations sont différentes.Mes petits enfants se passionnent actuellement pour les "peg dolls",et nous passons des heures à les peindre et à confectionner les petits vêtements en feutrine.J'adore cet ouvrage,poétique et foisonnant de belles idées!

I adore this book, and have bought at least three copies to give away. The dolls are beautiful, and not too hard to make. Lots of ideas here and a super fun craft for kids of all ages. To be honest I really loved making the dolls myself. I bought the wood doll blanks from Lee Valley in canada, and also from another American company online. The latter had much better selection of shapes, but it meant ordering quite a bit and I think I paid duty.

E' un libro bellissimo con tante idee per costruire giochi per bambini e fare lavori anche con loro per le stagioni. Foto molto belle e atmosfere poetiche.

My grandkids love it for the craft ideas and adults who see it want to get a copy. I'm using it as a gift for birthdays. I highly recommend Making Peg Dolls! The instructions in the book are very clear and easy to follow. There are directions for various types of materials to use and where to use them on the peg dolls. Explanations of different stiches are terrific. I love the suggestions for making dolls to accompany a favorite childhood story, for example, The Three Bears . Each holiday or section has a delightful poem related to the topic, as well as a list of supplies, so one knows exactly what is needed for the project. It is up to the individual to select colors, patterns, etc. to create a personal look for each creation. The illustrations are so fetching and I had a good time selecting the materials to make the dolls. The end of the book contains a list of resources where materials can be purchased via the internet or at specific locations around the globe.
