Good choice
I was looking for my first SDS drill and chose this one. It does the job and is great quality. I’ve already completed a big project (drilling a vent) and am very happy with it so far! I recommend getting Makita drill bits if you don’t already have some, as this drill doesn’t come with any.

Great SDS drill
Really good drill - very good quality at a good price. Has a lovely weight and feel to it and a nice long power cord. Bought to replace a DeWalt that had worn out after a few years and the repair guy recommended the Makita. You need to be aware that it is an SDS drill which means it takes SDS bits (which have grooves in the sides). If you want to use this with normal bits you need a chuck adapter- there are loads on Amazon for not much money. But SDS bits are far better if you are drilling into masonry or heavy timber as they don’t slip in the chuck. I have a small rechargable drill for lightweight work and use one this for the bigger jobs.

Drills in walls like butter. You won't come back to cordless drills after trying this.
Excellent quality as with all Makita equipment. Best choice to drill in any type of wall. I got a cordless combo drill and I only use this one for drilling in walls; it goes through anything like butter (I went through 24cm cavity wall from outside with no effort, hammer drill performance is very good). Chisel function is pretty nice and powerful (for this size). It's a heavy tool (compared with cordless ones) but a beast and makes the job very easy. Recommended.

Brilliant - would buy again in a heartbeat
Love this thing! I picked it up for a house renovation which it completed happily and is still going strong. I deliberately went wired as I think SDS needs that extra umph that you can't get without spending mega bucks on a cordless. The cord, however, is really long and sturdy which is handy when working on site. I'd argue it's a little overkill for day to day DIY use (I actually purchased a Makita cordless after). but for anything more it's absolutely fantastic. Used for drilling LOTS of big holes into brick and blockwork, also used with chisels and scutch combs for removing tiles, bits of walls, chasing out, demolishing bathrooms/kitchens etc etc. Just a super versatile bit of kit. The fact it's also an absolute bargain, has a torque limiter (I believe - please double check!) and has a hammer only mode make this a superb buy for somebody who needs to do 'proper' work but doesn't need to to all-in at professional prices.

A great hammer drill
Good piece of kit. Drill goes through my rough brickwork like a knife through butter. Very happy with purchase and delivery
