Fountain Pen
Good feel, weight, and writing quality. Ink flow depends on the tip. This arrive with an extra fine tip which flows well.

Wow
I already have a standard Black Forest Hongdian pen, and like it very much. This one I like even more. I expect it will have the same outstanding reliability as the other Hondian pens I have. This one is a real winner. A great writer, very comfortable. Nice balance for my somewhat large hands. Attractive but modest, understated appearance. Great value. The nib performance and the feel on the paper is outstanding. If you want a pen that works as a fountain pen should, you will be happy with this pen.

Great pen, great value
This is a fantastic pan, especially at this price point. The all-metal construction is very solid. The screw-on cap posts nicely, and the pen has a nice weight and feel. The black finish is flawless, and looks like it will be durable. The medium nib writes a consistent line and has a subtle amount of feedback that is appreciated, it definitely writes well straight out of the box. The design has subtle hints of the uber-expensive G von FC pens that I’ve always admired.

On OK pen, not particularly interesting....
Pen is fine - nothing wrong, just not that interesting. I saw some comments about the construction - the pen body is rubberized, or at least coated with some material. That is the source of the texturing. The section is painted/coated metal. If you find metal sections a little slippery and hard to grip the coating on this pen doesn't fix that - it's still too slick. Pen length, un-posted nib-tip-to-tail, is 125mm . For the way I write that's about 5mm to short for comfortable writing. Pen is metal construction, so on the heavy side. The cap will post reliably, but it's too back heavy to be comfortable and I wouldn't use the pen that way. My nib is ExFine, and I would describe it as a accurate for European nibs. The nib needed some slight adjustment and tuning for me to like it, but I'm super picky and end up tuning/adjusting almost every nib. Clip seems to have about the right amount of spring to be useful. Overall, works fine, looks nice, but I don't think this will be a pen I will pick up and use very often.

Well worth the money I spent
I bought this pen to leave in my desk as a back up black ink writer. I have a Cross FP that I paid almost triple what this pen cost. I liked this pen so much that I made it my carry pen and the Cross is the back up. The weight and balance is perfect. I don't post the cap on any of my pens, even if I can. Other than the custom Iron Wood pen it is heavier than any other pen I own. I got used to the weight very quickly. I use Pelikan 4001 Brilliant black ink. Have not had a leak so far. The ink flows very well and its never ran dry. The nib is smooth and doesn't feel scratchy as some other fine nibs that I have used. The only negative is the paint around the edges and the threads in the cap has worn a little in the four months I have been using it. However, I carry it in my shirt and pants pocket, in the exposed front pocket of my EDC bag, and on the center console in my work truck. I put it in a wooden tray with everything else from my pockets when get home. I am a pen user and not a collector. I have not tried to baby the pen but I haven't willfully abused it. I am sure if it stayed in my desk the wear wouldn't be there I will be purchasing another one of these Hongdian pens in blue for a blue ink pen.

The Write Choice
This pen quickly became my favorite. It feels substantial—on the heavy side and solid. High quality, smooth writing nib. Feels like a premium pen with a very reasonable price.

Beautiful, heavy but well balanced, wonderful writer!
I just received my Hong Dian Black Forest Max Fountain Pen. First of all, it feels like a much more expensive pen, and equally looks the part. The engraving is very intricate, but does it write? Oh, yes, it writes so smooth and I chose the extra fine nib and it is tuned perfectly. It is top heavy (I always post and this pen posts well) meaning the weight is above the grip, which means the nib feels very light. You could write all day and not tire. I filled it with Diamine Blue/Black and wrote several long paragraphs without a skip, scratch, just a constant flow of ink and the first line looked as good as the last line. Highly recommended!

Another Fine Pen
This Hongdian 1860 Black Forest Max fountain pen is a good sized pen. This might not be the pen for you since it's a little more girthy, but not so much as to be uncomfortable in larger hands. The pen also has a certain heft to it since it's made out of metal. Best of all the cap unscrews in a single rotation for quick writing when it's needed.

I use fountain pens for a certain type of sketching/ drawing/ painting I learned from Karen Campbell. I have a large variety of these pens and this one is abso trash. Scratchy as Hell. Big gaps in ink flow, the line will just drop out and then start again which REALLY sucks. I even went thru the effort of trying different inks- NO DIFFERENCE! My Lamy's are my favorite and I wholly recommend them over THIS garbage!! Don't buy... you have been warned. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
