Q: What is the expiry date?

Although it does have a sell-by-date on it, I can confirm that this stuff would probably outlast the zombie apocalypse. Legally companies have to put sell-bys on a product, but this certainly lasts and lasts. Unopened it won't oxidise for a very long time. I was visiting the US earlier this year and an American friend pulled out one that was five years past its sell-by-date, and proceeded to make a gorgeous fluffy pastry with it. I was dubious, but nobody died of food poisoning. It looked and smelled exactly the same as 'fresh' crisco. Even when you open it it's a long time before it goes off. (I mean, I assume it goes off. Hasn't done yet, but I'm working on the assumption that it will happen eventually.)On the one hand, this is good news if you want to stock up on it before prices shoot through the roof. On the other hand it does suggest that it's not necessarily the most 'real' food you could eat. Personally, I'm stocking up on it, because it honestly does bake incredibly well.
