Big mouse with attitude to match!
I've just received my Evoluent Vertical Mouse 3 from Hypertec, delivered the day after it was ordered. I removed my old HP mouse and plugged the Evoluent in and it worked without any fuss. I had to remedy the pointer speed as it was flying round my 2 screens but that was easy enough through the control panel. I downloaded the driver from the Evoluent site as described in the accompanying instructions. This provided a link in the Quick Launch panel to allow me to re-arrange the button functions as required as well as pointer speed etc. There is an array of functions to which you can allocate the buttons and wheel, or if you prefer turn some off until you get used to the mouse. There is a tendency to hit a button inadvertently when you move the mouse around. I have large hands so being able to grab a meaty mouse in the way it's possible makes it very comfortable. The hand angle removes any physical stress that may have been present with the traditional mouse. I found myself at ease with it straight away. It will take a short while to fully get used to the new hand position and for things to become totally automatic but it is a totally different concept. First impression is really good and can't imagine I would want to go back to the traditional mouse. It is a little pricey in comparison to the traditional types but when you tot up the hours with your hand on the bloomin' thing each day, and times that by the number of days, weeks, months and years you will be using it, does it really matter?! Your mouse will soon become your unexpected friend - but don't neglect your partner!

Having changed jobs and been given a laptop I found my old ergonomic mouse would not plug into the laptop! I quickly started to to get pain back again in my hand/arm and neck and was desperate for a solution. I read up on the subject and decide to buy this mouse as one of 3 to try (an expensive way to do things but as I couldn't find any to try in the shops and I was in pain, I wanted a quick solution). For info I use a MAC at home and a windows PC at work. This is a very good looking mouse with a fantastic tactile non-slip rubberised mouse surface (which is a pleasure to hold and seems to aid grip). It requires you to hold your hand almost at right angles to the desk, like shaking hands. This stops you having to twist your arm round to hold your hand palm face down (which is what you have to do with a normal mouse). I plugged it straight into my MAC at home and it worked first time and was EXTREMELY comfortable. At work on my windows laptop it did not seem to work properly (the cursor would not move around the screen properly and was very slow and jerky) which I felt was perhaps down to me not downloading the software required. I didn't do this download the software because it was my mouse and I would have to explain to our IT dept why I wasn't using standard issue Company equipment! More expensive than the Speed-link ergonomic mouse, which I also bought and is very similar, its design and feel is definitely more upmarket. It feels good to use and and works perfectly on my MAC (I've had it a couple weeks now). Best of all my pain has now gone. I recommend this product to anyone with a MAC and I'm sure with a bit more perseverance than I showed it would probably work just as well on a PC. NB because of its design it is taller than your average mouse (around 7.5cms). I only mention this as if you to use a slide out draw to position your mouse and keyboard you may not be able to close it with this mouse in it - I can't but that hasn't really bothered me at all, I'm too happy with it. For info I also ordered the 3M Ergonomic mouse and did not get on well with it at all. Even just by holding it for a while just to get the feel of it (before trying to plug it in) my arm/shoulder/neck started hurting. I did not pursue trying to use it the other 2 mice I ordered felt so much better.

Difficult to use with OS - finish peels off, poor customer service
***** update after 1 yr use. Found a way around some of KVM issues by routing it is an external USB device 'not a mouse' seems the firmware on Evoluent does not map across if switched by KVM! OK .. bad news on quality .......... after 1 year the paint finish is now peeling off badly. What appears to be a nice matt plastic finish, is in fact just a coat of paint. It has now come away fully from the palm rest area .. and peeling off in big strips elsewhere. Evoluent initially were not interested ... quote from Evoluent "warranty of paint is only 3 months form purchase" However I pushed the point, and they agreed to send me a new mouse. This is a good product in that it prevents wrist fatigue, but it does have it's quirks. ************************************ It is VERY particular over what it will work with. Found 3 issues. The problem is that I use a KVM switch box .... i.e. 2 PC's sharing single mouse, monitor, keyboard. It will not work with a KVM ...any standard mech or optical mouse works fine, this one won't. Manufacturer response was simple - we don't work with KVM's or USB hubs, switches etc. so don't think you can share it. Secondly even when plugged direct into laptop it was very unreliable, often no cursor on screen, or cursor would start moving horizontally on it's own. manufacturer advised it will not work if any other mouse driver present ... I cannot remove built ion track pad driver as it's fundamental to laptop. Thirdly ... it is susceptible to mouse mat type ... I had a mouse mat been using for years, and mouse was very erratic ... put it on a piece of plain white paper and all OK .... but have never come across a plain white mouse mat. manufacturer advised that I should use it on plain white background. All in all a product that is a nice idea but far too fussy and finicky or inter working.

Evoluent Vertical Mouse 3
I began looking into ergonomic mice after developing severe pains in my hand and wrist. I spend many hours a day at the desk as a CAD user and I had to find a way to ease the discomfort. After looking at a number of reviews I decided to give this one a try. At first a struggled to get used to the different orientation and button layout and in the first couple of days I wondered if I had wasted the company's money. It's a very expensive device compared to a normal mouse (and I had to convince my boss this was a worthwhile purchase). Well, by the end of the week I had got the hang of this new mouse. Now I would not be without it. Combined with taking regular short breaks and wrist/arm exercises I now find I can manage much longer days before the discomfort becomes a problem. As a SolidWorks user I found the supplied drivers caused some of the Solidworks mouse button functions to be lost, which drove me mad until I tried the standard Windows mouse drivers. Now everything works as it should. I have had the same problem in the past with Logitech mouse drivers too, so I shan't knock any points off for this. I have found the optical tracking to be accurate on most surfaces, so full marks here too. I have not tried any other ergo mice so I cannot make comparisons. All I can say is that this one has made a huge difference for me.

Great Mouse - Not very good build
I've had a v3 for quite a few years now for at work and decided that I wanted one for home too so I decided to buy a second. Now the first one I have to say is working perfectly despite the fact that the little slider pads underneath have completely worn off due to wear (I use it over 8 hours a day). But it works fine and I can't live without it! The second one I bought 11 months ago but it went weird on me about 4 months later, Amazon kindly replaced it with a new one which has been working fine up until now. Seven months after receiving my replacement, the mouse is starting to show exactly the same symptoms which are: mouse randomly freezes for anything from half a second to 5 seconds or forgets that you were holding down a mouse button while dragging and dropping so you end up dropping in the wrong place. After a few more sever freezes it will lockup and the only way to get it to work again is unplug it and plug it back in, if that doesn't work a restart is required. My findings so far: - it's nothing to do with drivers because I have taken my one from work (the good old one) and tried it at home and it works fine, I then tried my home one (the new one) at work and it judders and and freezes. - on the off chance that it might help, I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them but I noticed no improvement at all. Both computers are running windows7 pro 64bit. I'd love to recommend these mice as they are very close to being vertical unlike some that I have seen but the build quality in my opinion isn't great and I am loosing faith in them. But at the same time I love my old one! I have asked for a replacement again and hopefully this one will last longer...

I was skeptical
I was very skeptical before buying this. It's way overpriced if you look at the type of mouse that you can get in comparison but I was starting to get some quite nasty wrist pains from over ten years working in IT and so thought I would give it a try. I can honestly say that all day, I have not had any pressure on my carpal tunnel and no associated in that area. However, the mouse does put a new pressure on the side of your wrist which was very uncomfortable for a while. To fix this, I went to my local computer store and picked up a gel mouse pad ( Sandberg Mousepad / Wrist Rest ) which has proven to be a very comfortable combination. Overall the build quality isn't the best but it isn't the worst either and it is a nice looking mouse with the matt finish on the grip. It's very comfortable and I would recommend it, but only if you are suffering from wrist pains - there are better, slicker mice out there for less money.

Delivery/condition 100% Initially very happy with product
Delivery/condition 100% Initially very happy with product, however developed concerns: 1) Durability: product has reputation as not being very durable. Others have taken apart the device and found it to be lacking in certain areas (e.g. cable integration). I am not interested in a £60 product which needs replacing every few years. 2) Ergonomics: seemed to work well at relieving traditional mouse stress. However I had suspicions that stress would be transferred to the bottom of the hand instead, which is not a solution long-term. 3) Lack of pointer accuracy: product is extremely difficult to use in a gaming environment. Overall the mouse feels very expensive for what it is. Doesn't seem like a reliable way to solve the problem of mouse-related strain unless all you do is browse the web. If it was half the price I'd consider it more carefully. I returned the product and bought a £20 trackball instead for use alongside my gaming mouse, and I'm much happier.

Best product ever
This saved my job and massively reduced my RSI. I was going to have to give up my job as I suffered badly from (mouse caused) RSI. I was recommended this by my physiotherapist and it started working withing a week. Because huge strain is put on your ligaments using a normal mouse by twisting them 90 degrees, this allows your hand and wrist to sit in a more normal position. The strain is lessened and eventually your RSI might give you less pain. I still get RSI when drilling or playing tennis, but this vertical mouse is not a cure for RSI, it's just loads better than a normal mouse. It does take a few days to get used to this mouse position.
