A Little Course in Crochet: Simply everything you need to succeed

Brilliant book especially for newbies
I honestly couldn't recommend this more - bought during lockdown and with no idea of how to crochet, I bought some wool and a hook and totally taught myself using this and have done over 50 things since using numerous hook sizes and wool types. I have bought it for a friend and have also loaned my copy out several times. The way it works is it teaches a couple of stitches, starting with easy ones (with easy to follow text and step by step pictures) then you make something using those stitches - it introduces terminology along the way, but keeps it simple - as you progress the projects progress - there's also sections on yarn types, borders, hook types etc. which you end up going back to as as a reference - in the beginning you are more interested in how it works and starting with something simple - it's a 5 star book and very easy to understand

Inspiring
Came upon a battered copy of this book in the library and after renewing several times, couldn't bear to part with it, bought my own copy on amazon. It is beautifully presented with easy to follow instructions. Although an experienced knitter, I am new to crochet and progressing well through the book. Lots of beautiful examples of projects to try. For creative types you won't be disappointed

This includes all you need to know
I bought this two years ago as a complete crochet novice. It talks and demonstrates the first stitch you need to make ie a foundation stitch, and takes you through loads of common stitches in an easy progressive way. The only thingI would say that compared to other books the diagrams aren’t brilliant. They make sense once you manage the stitch but I think a quick look on YouTube is a great help. Now that I’m past the novice stage and using patterns, I still revert back to this book to remind me of a stitch. Needed it the other day for a half treble stitch. I think I’ll always have this book to hand.

Recommended, from a beginner.
I'm completely new to crochet. I'm actually dyspraxic, so not at all a practical, 'handy', or crafts orientated person. Crochet certainly has not came naturally to me; I've struggled for half a day on things that would take many people minutes.I dedided to buy two beginner books, hoping that if I did not find one helpful, I might at least find the other helpful! Out of my two books, this one has the clearer 'idiot proof' instructions- it assumes nothing- and progresses steadily and logically. Also in this book is a nice guide on essential and helpful equipment, an introduction to hooks and yarn, various charts; on hook sizes, yarn hook to weight, UK to US terminology and optional projects that you can test or progress on that will give you a sense of tangible achievement as you learn. This will also give you the opportunity to learn to read patterns as you go along. After a few days of study I've started and soon finished two different coloured washcloths from the pattern that is the first project. As someone who didn't think they were practical or crafty in any sense of the word, I think it speaks for itself. If you're like me and not that confident in your abilities, and feel a bit stupid clumsily handling your hook and yarn- then for you I'd recommend this book.

Self taught using this book
This book is amazing if you are just beginning to crochet. It explains things really clearly and extra info for us left handed crocheters. I did occasionally need to watch online videos for some complicated stitches as it’s always helpful to see it being done in person. There are lots of simple projects to have a go at as well. Highly recommend for beginner crocheters. I’m a little further along now but still refer back to this book when checking I’m doing the stitch correctly.

A little misleading .. I would have given 5 stars otherwise
I'm an avid crochet beginner, but this book differs from any of the YouTube Videos I've watched and books I already have, in as much, when it mentions 2nd chain from the hook, the illustration, actually shows it as the 3rd from the hook; 3 chain from the hook, actually shows the 4th chain from the hook, etc. It's great otherwise. Has anyone else noticed this?

Everything in there
In my opinion, any number of books on crochet weren't much use to me though they were good enough. This book by DK on basics of crocheting includes all the fundamentals of the craft with precision and ultimate depth. There were many unanswered questions in my mind before I bought this book and started practicing from it. As a beginner, I will say this is my 'Holy Grail' book. There are also a few projects (Basic) to boost the confidence of the novice.
